AL Only Mock Draft – 10 Teams

Another season of AL Only fantasy baseball is fast approaching, and it’s time to start getting into mock drafts to figure out the ADP’s of various players and basic draft trends. Like most of our mock drafts, this off-season we will used Mock Draft Central as our site for hosting this mock.

When you are talking about an AL or NL only fantasy baseball league you cut off basically half of the overall player in the majors to select from. In these leagues you will find that average mixed league options become key starters as the talent pool drops.

AL Only Mock Draft Notes:

Adam Jones / Matt Wieters -  Make Or Break Year: The Orioles have put together what many believe is a quality coaching staff and productive veteran hitting this off-season. Given the way this group finished the season in 2010 when Buck Showalter took over I hold out much hope for outfielder Adam Jones and catcher Matt Wieters to have solid 2011 seasons.

Of the two it is Jones that could be an All Star bound player this season if he realizes his talent and starts to produce hitting third in the order. Hopefully, the Orioles make good on acquiring Vladimir Guerrero as it would only ensure that pitchers will need to give Jones solid pitches to hit all season.

I expect these two youngsters to play well and that means AL Only and mixed league owners can get these guys at a great value in 2011 fantasy drafts.

Cliff Pennington Can Help Your AL Only Squad: Let’s face it, the talent at shortstop is lacking in AL Only fantasy baseball, and if you don’t acquire Derek Jeter or Alexei Ramirez it will be a hard go at this position for your team.

Finding decent production is key, and one shortstop who is coming at a cheep price but should be helpful is A’s Cliff Pennington.

On Mock Draft Central, Cliff Pennington’s ADP for AL Only leagues is 137.80 which puts him right around the fourteenth round in ten team leagues. Pennington should be a good source of stolen bases as he posted 29 last season in 508 at bats.

Look for Pennington to make a run for up to 35 stolen bases this season as he should get a few more at bats on an a team that could use him on the field every day. If he can hit for a .270 batting average than his value will be worth starting in AL Only leagues at the price you paid for him.
