While Johan Santana is making solid progress in his rehab, don’t look for him as an option on draft day. Maybe if you have deep bench or multiple DL spots in your league it is worth a shot, but Santana probably won’t be back with the Mets until June or July.

20th Round Results

229. Travis Snider – OF: Look to Travis Snider as a cheep source of power that is gaining in value throughout this season. Snider is one of the Blue Jays pieces of the present and future and his presence made it an easy choice for this team to part ways with Vernon Wells.

230. Fernando Rodney – RP: Fernando Rodney is the likely favorite for save opportunities to begin the season with the Angels. Don’t expect Rodney to finish the year as the teams closer as they need a better option if they hope to reach the playoffs.

231. Scott Baker – SP: Scott Baker isn’t flashy but he can get the job done and that is what matters for success. Since Baker pitches for a winning team in the Twins, he’s worth stashing on your roster.

232. John Buck – C: Last season, with the Blue Jays, John Buck surprised us all with a strong home run total. Buck isn’t a horrible choice at this point in the draft but is only worth having if you start two catchers now that he’s with the Marlins.

233. Johan Santana – SP: The Mets are happy about Johan Santana’s rehab but won’t be ready until at the earliest June. Don’t draft Santana, unless you have an IR spot to use because he will take up a valuable roster spot.

234. Jhonny Peralta – SS, 3B: Jhonny Peralta isn’t a young player anymore, but maybe he’s getting slapped down too hard by fantasy owners these days. Peralta still has some decent power for shortstop and will be playing for a competitive team in the Tigers.

235. Carlos Beltran – OF: It looks like Carlos Beltran is coming into this season with decent health and his switch to playing a corner outfield position should help him stay healthy. Beltran is worth a gamble at this point in the draft if you keep expectations low.

236. Aaron Harang – SP: While it’s nice to see Aaron Harang get a chance to start for the Padres, I wouldn’t look to him as a draftable option (in mixed leagues) this spring. Harang has much to prove, and we need to see more before he is used on rosters.

237. Anibal Sanchez – SP: Taking a chance on Anibal Sanchez isn’t a bad idea at this point. The Marlins have an underrated starting rotation, and Sanchez could find a groove in any season. That said, he is likely to have his ups and downs throughout the season.

238. Jose Tabata – OF: The Pirates came on offensively in the second half of last season and Jose Tabata was a key contributor. Tabata added muscle this offseason to hit for more power so expect good things.

239. Kevin Slowey – SP: Not much of a fan of Kevin Slowey at this point in his career. Just a few seasons ago, people wouldn’t shut up about the Twins young pitching, and it’s not worked out as well as projected. Slowey has decent ability but don’t expect big things.

240. Carlos Ruiz – C: Another catcher who is worth starting in NL only leagues, or if you start two catchers in a mixed league. This mock draft demanded that you have two starting catchers, and that is why Carlos Ruiz is off the board.
