Second Baseman ADP Rankings

With health concerns for Chase Utley and Brian Roberts the second base position is only getting thinner as we head towards the start of the season. Thankfully, we have a few options on the top of this list that are more than capable of giving you a solid season and hit in high scoring offenses.

The second base ADP Rankings below are as listed on Mock Draft Central for mixed 5×5 leagues.

Second Base ADP Rankings

1. Robinson Cano -

ADP Earliest Latest Projected Round (12 TM)
10.32 5 17 1st Round

With Chase Utley down and out, Robinson Cano is the top second baseman for fantasy baseball by a wide margin. Cano probably had his career year in 2010, but he will continue to have strong seasons in the future.

2. Chase Utley -

ADP Earliest Latest Projected Round (12 TM)
19.89 15 36 2nd Round

Expect Chase Utley’s ADP ranking to drop from this point on as his knee continues to be an issue and isn’t responding well. As I’ve said before, if Utley hasn’t gotten better throughout the offseason while resting on the knee I don’t think he will miraculously be ready any time soon. Utley should be the sixth or seventh best second best player at this position on your list.

Pass on Utley this season unless you can acquire him and feel safe about holding him on your DL list from time to time this season. In the end, you should get healthier options for your team in the first five rounds.

3. Dustin Pedroia -

ADP Earliest Latest Projected Round (12 TM)
32.07 23 40 3rd Round

The Red Sox are going to put up a tone of offensive production this season and Dustin Pedroia should enjoy one of his best seasons. Don’t be surprised if Pedroia’s ADP moves up slightly in the coming weeks as Chase Utley is due to fall.

4. Brandon Phillips -

ADP Earliest Latest Projected Round (12 TM)
34.85 27 60 3rd Round

Don’t be surprised of the Reds go through a tough season as they are a mark team in 2011. That said, Brandon Phillips should have another strong season as the Reds’ offense will continue to be one of the top five in the National League.

5. Rickie Weeks -

ADP Earliest Latest Projected Round (12 TM)
40.18 35 62 4th Round

Rickie Weeks is a strong guy, but I don’t anticipate him hitting for close to 30 home runs again this season. Hopefully, Weeks will hit for over .270 this season as his batting average can be a liability. Put it all together and Weeks is a decent fourth round option, but I will personally pass on him in my leagues.

6. Ian Kinsler -

ADP Earliest Latest Projected Round (12 TM)
50.38 31 61 5th Round

Ian Kinsler can have his struggles but at the end of the day he’s a productive fantasy option when on the field. Like second baseman listed above him on this list, Kinsler hits in a high octane offense and will benefit from those around him.

7. Dan Uggla -

ADP Earliest Latest Projected Round (12 TM)
51.40 27 62 5th Round

Away from Florida for the first time, Dan Uggla will go through some adjustments and probably had a career year in 2010. Expect Uggla to continue his power hitting ways but a drop back to around a .260 batting average is likely.

8. Martin Prado -

ADP Earliest Latest Projected Round (12 TM)
73.78 51 89 7th Round

Martin Prado won’t play at second base this season, but he is still eligible for this position in 2011. Take advantage of the situation and us Prado at this position. At the end of the day, Prado is going to hit over .300, score 100 runs and give you decent power from this position.

To begin the season Prado is also eligible for third base and will probably be eligible for an outfield slot. Added versatility makes Prado and easy selection in the seventh round of 12 team drafts.

9. Chone Figgins -

ADP Earliest Latest Projected Round (12 TM)
91.95 74 167 8th Round

If you look at Chone Figgins latest selection above, it is easy to see he can slip way past his average draft position on MDC. Because Figgins plays for an anemic Mariners’ offense, you shouldn’t draft him inside the top 100 fantasy players on draft day.

Look to Figgins as more of an option in the 12th round in contrast to the 9th and you’ll get decent return.

10. Kelly Johnson -

ADP Earliest Latest Projected Round (12 TM)
111.19 76 129 10th Round

This is a respectable area to select Kelly Johnson as he plays in an offensive ball park, and the Diamondbacks should play better this season. Don’t expect Johnson to hit 26 home runs again this season, but he may still give you twenty and steady play at the second base position.

11. Ben Zobrist -

ADP Earliest Latest Projected Round (12 TM)
125.75 90 151 11th Round

Ben Zobrist had a disappointing season in 2010 after a strong 2009 campaign. As an average 11th round selection in 12 team leagues, Zobrist is a decent bounce back option. Eligible in the outfield as well, Zobrist gives you some flexibility throughout the season, but he should be used as a second baseman in most leagues.

12. Brian Roberts -

ADP Earliest Latest Projected Round (12 TM)
132.50 103 181 12th Round

Because Brian Roberts had another flair up to his back, his ADP is falling in March. At this point, in the draft, Roberts is a nice selection and would make for a great utility slash 2b/ss player in mixed leagues. The Orioles are going to put up a bunch of offense and Roberts will be really productive, when of the field.
