By The Numbers: Strategy For Draft Day
Projected Leadoff, 2nd, 6th Hitters
Well, Well the Dog is final writing again. In February, I put out my team by team draft boards sorted by American League and National league teams. I believe if you use this with you cheat sheet it should show you where the talent is on teams most likely to be in the playoff race. This cheat sheet like others, helps the first four or five rounds, then if you highlight key players on our draft board it can carry you the rest of the way.
Another article I’ve written is, “Where’s the Beef.” This article was designed to highlight 3, 4, 5 hitters whom statistically will get the most opportunities to generate RBI’s, runs, home runs and tend to hit for higher averages. As I said then, there are some hitters in the two spot or six slot along with an occasional lead off hitters that produce this way but not many.
Well here are numbers for projected leadoff, 2nd and sixth hitters and while a few solid players are available you to choose it is best to cherry pick a couple here and then get back to drafting hitters in the 3 – 5 batting order. Look at the stats your going to be surprised at are how many 3 – 5 hitter score more runs than leadoff hitters. Yep, and it gets worse for National league leadoff batters and number two hitters.
Anyway, this is provided as an additional fantasy strategy guide to consider before you get ready to draft your team.
Good luck in 2011,
