Two Start Pitchers – Week 2

It’s time to gear up for the second week of the 2011 fantasy baseball season with a look at the projected two start pitchers. Because there were so many games in the first week of head to head play, you will notice some top line studs are still set to double up. Sure, Felix Hernandez, Clayton Kershaw, Justin Verlander, David Price and Chris Carpenter headline the list but there are others to keep in mind.

For starters Mat Latos is projected to take the mound and return from the disabled list, and will take on Reds and Astros in week two. Another pitcher who should take the mound twice this week, coming off a spring injury is Brewers Shaun Marcum. In Marcum’s case, he’s already pitched in the first week and looks fine going forward.

One pitcher I will be watching with interest on this list is Rays’ youngster Jeremy Hellickson as he takes on the Red Sox and Twins. Against the Angels last week, Hellickson pitched less than six full innings but fanned ten batters. This will be a big season for Hellickson who was ranked on MLB Network, as one of the top young prospects in baseball.

Another youngster that impressed me was Mariners’ standout Michael Pineda. The youngster was impressive in his lone start in week one against the Rangers and has proven to be trust worthy in the early going of the season.
