Week 6 Hitter Rankings

While it’s always a downer to see your top draft picks start slow, I always try to reserve judgment until I’ve seen their performance through the first two months of the season. Fantasy baseball is a marathon and just because a player has a bad month or so, it doesn’t mean they will be a bust for the full season.

That said, it’s time to see hitters like Adam Dunn, Carlos Gonzalez and Carl Crawford step it up and set the tone for the rest of the season. Crawford and Gonzalez showed progress to begin week five so hopefully they can continue that success into the future. As for Dunn, his switch to the American league has proven to us all that he’s undergoing a learning curve of figuring out all the new pitchers.

Dunn also had surgery in April and while Matt Holliday has had success upon return from the same problem, you never know how it affects one individual or another. The White Sox new slugger could also be suffering from not playing in the field and only hitting as he is now a full time designated hitter.

Personally, I was never used as a DH playing in High School or in the Mexican Leagues but some of my friends that did DH used to tell me that it was hard to stay in the flow of the game, because they weren’t in the field. I can imagine Dunn might be having the same problem, because as a baseball player, your activity in the game is at a minimum as a DH.

In the end, Dunn should figure things out and start pounding the baseball out of the White Sox’s hitter friendly field.
