Week 9 Hitter Rankings
The Mets may not reach the playoffs but while Jose Reyes is around, they’re getting some terrific production from this star player. Reyes continues to hit for a high average and his 19 stolen bases heading into Sunday are a league high. Perhaps Reyes is benefiting from added motivation because he’s in a contract year, or it could be that he’s just enjoying an injury free season.
Whatever the reason(s), Reyes looks to be a shoe in for one of the top producers at shortstop this season and his value will probably increase if the Mets move him as he would probably play for a playoff contending team. If Reyes can stay healthy (big if) I wouldn’t be surprised if he finished with a batting average over .310 and up to 60 stolen bases.
Another hot par of speedsters are the Red Sox outfielders Jacoby Ellsbury and Carl Crawford. It was only a matter of time before Crawford broke out and started to produce like the player we’ve grown accustomed to back when he was with Tampa Bay. Maybe Crawford had some adjusting to do with playing outdoors in the spring, but it looks like he’s ready for a hot June as he’s tearing the cover of the baseball of late.
