Week 11 Waiver Wire Pickups
While rookies like Anthony Rizzo, Mike Moustakas and Dee Gordon are the talk of the town in fantasy baseball there is another rookie that’s playing great and that is Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman. It took the youngster sometime to get going as he started with the Braves from Opening Day on, but he clearly looks to be on the right track now as he has a .333 batting average in the past month.
Owned in 26 percent of Yahoo leagues and 37 percent of ESPN leagues, Freeman is available in most leagues, so if you’re looking for some extra help, ride the hot hand of this youngster through the summer.
Week Eleven Waiver Wire Options
Anthony Rizzo – Padres – 1B
| Yahoo | ESPN |
| 22% | 36% |
Mike Moustakas – Royals – 3B
| Yahoo | ESPN |
| 29% | 48% |
I discussed both of these players in last weeks’ waiver wire as two players who could see a call up soon, and sure enough both were called up last week and hit their first major league home runs on the same day. As you can see by the percentage owned above, both can still be had in over half of Yahoo and ESPN leagues still, and you need to seriously consider grabbing these guys, if for anything trade bait down the road.
Moustakas hold even for trade value because he’s a third baseman and finding a productive one, with big time power, is hard to come by and this young slugger brings that.
Shortstop
Dee Gordon – Dodgers
| Yahoo | ESPN |
| 15% | 10% |
If you’re in need of speed and a respectable batting average from the shortstop position, Dee Gordon is a great pickup. The Dodgers are going to give Gordon regular playing time and Rafael Furcal is on the disabled list, and they have Gordon leadoff. This team is in great need of an electric man at the top of the order, and this youngster will bring that as he stole 22 bases in just over 200 minor league at bats this year.
Outfielders
Ben Revere – Twins
| Yahoo | ESPN |
| 1% | 1% |
Another rookie making things happen as the Twins are desperate for help with one of the worst offenses in baseball and a tone of injuries and Ben Revere is making the most of his opportunities. If you’re in need for some speed, Revere can help you in the short run, and if he continues to play well, the Twins may keep him starting when others return from the disabled list.
Desmond Jennings – Rays (In The Minors)
| Yahoo | ESPN |
| 10% | 1% |
If you have the room on your roster to stash an outfielder, Desmond Jennings should pay off well for you when he called up. As great as Sam Fuld has been in the outfield, he’s not getting it done with this bat and Desmond Jennings is primed for a breakout as he’s still considered one of the better prospects in the minor leagues.
Jennings is on a tear in the minors right now and his play has to make the Rays pull the trigger on calling him up in the near future.
