Week 12 Hitting Planner
Last week fantasy owners with Ryan Zimmerman and Pablo Sandoval received a boost to their lineups as both third baseman returned to action. While I still have concerns for Sandoval because he had a wrist injury, Zimmerman should hopefully be back to his old self upon his return. So far, so good, as Zimmerman has hit safely his first five games back with the Nationals.
Look for Zimmerman to have a strong summer as power hitting first baseman Michael Morse is hitting behind him for protection in the lineup. I thought this would be a problem for Zimmerman, but it looks like opposing pitchers will be forced to give Morse respect and give the Nationals’ star third baseman challenge fastball to drive in teammates like Jayson Werth.
While our overall third base rankings received a boost this week, the first base position continues to be strong as Blue Jays Adam Lind has been on a tear of late. In just over the last two weeks, Lind has pounded eight home runs, driven in 17 RBI’s and is hitting a sparkling .413 batting average. If Lind continues to hit well, his presence in the Blue Jays lineup will only help star Jose Bautista as his success could give Bautista better pitches to hit.
