ADP Values – Defensive Backs
CLICK HERE FOR OUR CURRENT FANTASY DRAFT INFORMATION
Until the day comes to pass that it’s clear Troy Polamalu isn’t a great player in the league, it seems people will still overvalue him in IDP fantasy football leagues. I really don’t care if you’re involved in a heavy big play scoring as his tackle numbers (and health concerns) just aren’t high enough to justify him being a top ten defensive back on draft day.
While I grow tired of seeing his name high on lists, year after year, I suppose many fantasy owners are willing to give up a mid round pick to get the guy they like rooting for, and who can argue with that, because after all, it’s your fantasy team. Anyway, Polomalu is just one of many defensive backs listed on My Fantasy Leagues ADP values for IDP leagues.
Atop the list, at this point in the summer (middle of July) we have second year standout Eric Berry, and because I can only assume these ADP’s are based more on big-play scoring rules, I can’t argue with Berry as the top man. The Chiefs’ star safety came on strong at the end of last year, as it was clear he had figured some things out, at the pro level, after an slow first half of the season.
Outside of Pat Chung, it is Berry that I find to be one of the best pure play-makers around, that can still rack up over 110 tackles in a season. Speaking of Chung, the Patriots strong safety should continue to mature in his third year, as he was in fact the breakout IDP defensive back I hoped he would mature into last summer.
As for top corner backs on the list, Terrell Thomas is deserving of being the top corner taken if you look at his stats last year, however rookie Prince Amukamara is a threat for his job, throughout the season. I believe Thomas will give way to Amukamara at some point this year, but he should keep his starting job until at least November.
Second year Patriots corner back Devin McCourty had a terrific rookie season and should be a valuable corner to own in IDP leagues this year. That said, NFL teams know who this guy is and will likely try to avoid him, should he continue to improve his skills. If I’m not mistaken McCourty actually made the Pro Bowl in his rookie year, so that is telling that he may see a reduction in tackles and big plays, as opposing quarterbacks look the other way.
Rookie corner Patrick Peterson makes the top fifteen in these ADP values, and while I find that to be high, his best season for IDP use, will probably be this season. Peterson isn’t a great tackler, but opposing quarterbacks will be throwing the football his way, as they avoid Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie on the other side.
That’s all for this article, but I will have more analysis for defensive ends and linebackers as well. Again, I will have an updated ADP listing in August, but you can always go to My Fantasy League (link at the top of article) to find-out the recent trends on a daily basis. Good luck in your 2011 IDP fantasy football league(s).
