Running Back ADP’s – PPR Leagues
CLICK HERE FOR OUR CURRENT FANTASY DRAFT INFORMATION
When it comes to PPR leagues, the ADP trends around the web have six running backs as the clear top options to target on draft day as the first options off the board. Those backs are Arian Foster, Adrian Peterson, Ray Rice, Chris Johnson, Jamaal Charles and LeSean McCoy. While I had a hard time warming up to the idea of LeSean McCoy and Ray Rice as a possible option for the first overall pick, I can’t deny that they are in the type of situations that can provide top notch performance, especially when in Rice’s case as he was given the goal-line job over the past week, in-spite of the addition of Ricky Williams.
Both McCoy and Rice will likely start out as true feature backs to begin the season, but might see a decrease in goal-line opportunities should they struggle early in the season.
In the case of Jamaal Charles, he has great concerns about losing goal-line work, but he is clear a more explosive option that Rice and McCoy to select. If you feel he will break through for a touchdown total of ten or more, he’s a better fit to consider with your first pick over Rice and McCoy, because of his play-making ability.
Adrian Peterson and Chris Johnson have the credentials, to be options for the top two selections overall, but both have their baggage. Peterson has arguably the worst offensive line in football, and the loss of left tackle Bryant McKinnie (released after coming to camp overweight) didn’t help matters.
In my humble opinion, Johnson is the best play-maker in all of football, but the Titans are going through a re-building phase and Johnson is still mired in a holdout. If his holdout continues into September (or by the time you draft) I would recommend that you at least move him down to the bottom of the top six option mentioned in this post.
Finally, you have the man who sites atop this mid August running back ADP listing from Fantasy Football Calculator, and that is no other than Arian Foster. Throughout the off-season I’ve had Foster as the number one player to draft, but an early camp hamstring injury has put doubt to if he will have recurring issues.
Luckily Foster’s hamstring ailment is considered to be of the grade one variety and that is the easiest grade to come back from. For my money, I don’t even need to see Foster participate in a preseason game, as long as he can return to full practices a couple of weeks before the season starts.
