LaRon Landry Admits He’s Out Week One | FF Brainwave Report

LaRon Landry Continues To Battle Health Issues

9/6 update – Coach Mike Shanahan said he likely won’t decide on if LaRon Landry (Achilles’, hamstring) will play until some time before kickoff on Sunday.

Fantasy Impact: For those of you that drafted Landry in IDP leagues, you should have known this was likely going to be the story throughout the season. Landry’s health will be up in the air from week to week, but when he’s on the field, this guy can perform as a DB-1 for your team. This is exactly why we backed off our initial rankings of making Landry the top defensive back in the early portion of August and viewed him more as a DB-2 as he likely will miss games.

Look to backup Reed Doughty as a must have backup to Landry as he should make for a respectable play when the Redskins star safety misses time.

9/7 Update - Landry has since conceded that he is out for the first game of the year on Wednesday, so look to Reed Doughty as a possible replacement in IDP leagues

Lance Moore Should Be Fine For Week One

It looks like Lance Moore will be on the field against the Packers, even though he is likely to be listed as questionable heading into the game.

Fantasy Impact – I’ve rated Lance Moore as the top receiver to own in New Orleans this year as Marques Colston is battling another microfracture knee surgery. Look to Moore as a decent WR-3 play this week but I would look to someone with a matchup with more upside like maybe A.J. Green against the Browns.

While Moore will be on the field, let’s see how he performs and how many snaps he plays before we start to look at him as a weekly option.

9/7 Update - Lance Moore has been ruled out this week. Look to Jimmy Graham and Robert Meachem as better odds for fantasy lineups than Marques Colston. They could also run the football more with Ingram and Thomas.

Steve Smith To Suit Up For Eagles Week 1

After it was speculated that veteran receiver Steve Smith might start the season on the PUP list, the Eagles are now looking to suit him up week one and possible use him on the field.

Fantasy Impact - As Eagles beat-writer Jeff McLane points out in the tweet below, at best Smith may only see a snap or two on the field as he’s not ready for regular work. Smith has made strides in camp to get back on the field, which is part of the reason why the Eagles are keeping him on the active roster. Smith is a good stash in deep leagues but he’s likely to be an irrelevant fantasy option for at lest the first month of the season.

Cowboys Secondy Limited Against Jets

With Terence Newman officially out week one, Dallas will have their problems in pass protection as Rob Ryan looks to retool a defense that underachived last year.

Fantasy Impact - This is a good opportunity for Mark Sanchez and while I don’t view him as a starter in (good in league if you start two quarterbacks) this week, it will be a test to see how far he’s come this off-season. Santonio Holmes should have a solid performance in this one, and Plaxico Burress may find the end zone as well.
