Mason Foster Should Remain A Three Down Linebacker

After a breakout week against the Vikings, it looked like Buccaneers’ rookie middle linebacker Mason Foster was ready to be the breakout option we’d hoped for at the start of camp. Quincy Black was working in Foster spot in mixed packages during the teams’ week one contest, and while he’s hurt, I wanted to find out if Foster was likely to play three downs going forward.

To learn more I contacted Buccaneers beat-writer Stephen Holder, and he replied that the coaching staff might even keep Foster in full time even when Black is healthy as the coaching staff is very pleased with Foster. This is great news for those of you that have held onto Foster as a depth option to begin the year, and there may still be time to pick him up off your waiver wire in a few leagues.

This week Foster is listed in our linebacker rankings as a LB-3, and if he puts another quality game together against the Falcons I will likely move him up as a LB-2 heading into October. While the Buccaneers tend to play their middle linebacker away from the line, more so than other defenses (Tamp-2 scheme) for pass protection, Foster should still be a respectable option for up to six or seven solo tackles a week as an every down backer.

Cedric Benson To Be Suspended After This Week

Yahoo’s Mike Silver claims that Cedric Benson has been in formed by the league that he will be suspended for three games for violating the leagues substance abuse policy.

Fantasy Outlook: According to the news break, Benson will be a go against the 49ers but will be out for the next three weeks after the league hears Benson appeal on Tuesday. This makes Bernard Scott a hot waiver wire pickup and if you have a chance to get him, pick him up right away, if you need running help.
