Colt McCoy vs Seahawks -
The Browns are better than years’ past, but they still have a lot to work on before they’re ready to win games regularly. That said, the addition of Greg Little to the starting lineup and Peyton Hillis’s continued health problems, does lead to Colt McCoy being a sneaky start this week against a weak Seahawks secondary.
My long-term problem with McCoy has nothing to do with his ability to understand what’s going on the field, but more that he has one of the weaker arms in the league, and it shows by the teams lacking of a vertical game. Running a West Coast offense is the perfect system for McCoy because he can take advantage of short routes and pick the defense apart.
The Seahawks shouldn’t have problems posting up to 28 points on the Browns this week as Charlie Whitehurst and company had no problems moving the football against the Giants in New York. Look for McCoy to keep Cleveland in the game by throwing a couple touchdowns and likely putting up over 40 pass attempts this week.
John Beck @ Panthers –
I’d like to say that we’ve seen the last of Rex Grossman but who the heck knows when you’re dealing with Mike Shanahan. During the preseason, I like John Beck over Grossman but the former Bear got the call to begin the year and posted a couple nice games to start the season. Consider week six vs the Eagles, Grossman’s midnight hour as his dream world came crashing down and reality set in with a four interception performance and an ugly loss to a division foe.
Beck came in to finish the game and led the Redskins down the field for their only touchdown of the game, as he ran in for a touchdown. While Beck has a decent matchup, look for Fred Davis and Santana Moss as the starters to play in the Redskins passing game, as they will likely focus on running the football as the Falcons did last week with Michael Turner.
While Beck can have a few respectable games for fantasy, he should be viewed as nothing more than an emergency fill-in on your squad.
