Week 9 – RB Rankings

Beanie Wells vs Rams -
It’s a case of good news, bad news for Beanie Wells owners as their running back played against the Ravens and produced a touchdown, but clearly looked slowed down by his knee injury. Wells even went as far as to acknowledge after the game that his knee could be a problem for the remainder of the season.
While Wells has clearly lost some of the sparkle from his early-season success, he’s still a worthy RB-2 play against the Rams defense this week. For whatever reason, the Saints decided they wouldn’t test the Rams run defense and kept throwing the football, despite the fact that Drew Brees was consistently pressured by their defensive ends.
With Kevin Kolb suffering a turf toe injury last week, look for the Cardinals to feed Wells and Alfonso Smith in an attempt to keep Steven Jackson off the field, and control the clock.
Reggie Bush @ Chiefs –
The Chiefs have had their struggles against the running game and if rookie Daniel Thomas is scratched again, Reggie Bush should see the majority of the workload. Just keep in mind that the Dolphins will likely use Steve Slaton or Lex Hilliard as the goal-line runners, as they failed to keep Bush on the field at times in the red zone. Keep an eye on Thomas’s status as we head close to game time.
Cedric Benson @ Titans –
Look for the Bengals to use Cedric Benson early and often against a Titans defense that hasn’t played the run well for over a month. I’m not going to give the Titans a pass for slowing down the Colts offense, because they are clearly the worst team in football, but the five and two Bengals are far from that. Benson has had a couple of weeks to rest up, and that is a good thing for his fantasy owners, as we’ve seen Benson breakdown around this point in the season before, as a feature back.
Benson should be a quality RB-2 in standard scoring leagues as he will likely run for at least 80 yards and a score as the Bengals control the tempo of the game.
