A year-ago David Akers was the top kicker in fantasy football as the Eagles enjoyed a prosperous offensive season with Michael Vick running the show. After a horrible post season performance against the Packers, Akers was sent on his way as the Eagles moved on to rookie Alex Henery on draft day.
When the lockout was completed, Akers signed with the 49ers, and it seemed that his time as one of the elite fantasy kickers was done, as San Francisco has been a bad team for years. Enter Coach Jim Harbaugh and you now have an eight and one ball club that relies on the sure leg of Akers to build leads, weekly.
The top kicker in fantasy once again, Akers will continue to be a reliable, elite, fantasy kicker for the rest of the year and likely for a few more years to come.
