Week 13 PPR – WR Rankings

Roddy White @ Texans -
This is the kind of year, your happy to have Roddy White in a PPR league rather than traditional standard or big-play performance leagues, because he’s only found the end zone four times, and has just three games over 76 yards receiving. In recent weeks, White has finally looked close to the receiver fantasy owners expected from the get go, as he’s been targeted 27 times for 17 receptions to land him 267 yards and a score, total in the past two weeks.
While those are great numbers, White has still struggled to find his timing with Matt Ryan in the vertical passing game. Just last week, White had blown coverage, but Ryan over threw him. Sadly, the only defensive back that was close to White was safety Tyrel Johnson, as he appeared to injure his hamstring on the play, grabbing the back of his leg during the play.
What was sure to be a touchdown, went in the books as an incomplete pass, but at least Ryan has been able to make all the other throws with respectable accuracy of late.
Ryan and White’s struggles in the vertical game remind me of the problems Aaron Rodgers and Greg Jennings had back in the 2009 season. Many will remember the Packers season ending as Rodgers kicked the football of his foot, and Karlos Dansby ran the it back for a game-winning touchdown in the playoffs.
What you might forget, is that Rodgers had Jennings wide open down the field for what would have been a 70-yard touchdown, but he over threw him. Since that season, Rodgers and Jennings have been great, and at some point I expect the Ryan to White connection to bounce back, but for now, consider White a respectable WR-1 in PPR leagues, and likely a WR-2 in other leagues.
This week White should have another solid reception total, as the Falcons will lean on Ryan’s arm to win the game, as the Texans have been stout against the run.
Dwayne Bowe @ Bears -
Say what you want about Dwayne Bowe’s situation but he’s still a worthy WR-3 play on a weekly basis, especially in PPR leagues. Sure like the rest of the Chiefs offense, Bowe has failed to score a touchdown since the loss of his starting quarterback Matt Cassel, but in the past two weeks he has 14 receptions off of his 20 targets in that time.
With the addition of Kyle Orton last week, Bowe should start to see the end zone every once in awhile, when the veteran finally over takes career backup Tyler Palko. That could happen this week, but it will likely be one more week, if Orton taking the full reps with the first team by Friday.
One thing Orton has been good for over the years, is making the teams No.1 receiver a viable play weekly as both Brandon Lloyd and Brandon Marshall have had sound success with him. Bowe should be no different, as he has a big frame and top notch athleticism, that Orton will lean on with his new team.
