Week 16 IDP – LB Rankings

Aldon Smith @ Seahawks - 

It took Aldon Smith a few games into his rookie year to make an impact for the 49ers, but since his breakout game week four against the Eagles, Smith has gone on to post 13 sacks in the past 11 games. In that time, Smith has only failed to post a sack in three games, and he has five and a half sacks in his last three games. A hobbled Ben Roethlisberger felt the wrath of Smith, and he should have had three and a half sack on Monday Night, but one was taken away on a weak penalty, in the secondary.

When Smith was drafted as the seventh overall pick, it was thought that he would be a project player as he only played about two seasons of football at Missouri and was going to make an adjustment to playing up right as a linebacker. Still in a limited amount of snaps, Smith is a beats, and his speed and strength really stood out to me, when I was at the game, a couple of days ago.

What’s nice about Smith is that he’s been able to post at least three solo tackles in the past three weeks, to go with this sacks, so for big-play leagues, Smith should be a solid LB-3 on what should be the final week for many leagues.

D.J. Smith vs. Bears –

Filling in for Desmond Bishop in recent weeks, D.J. Smith has played like a respectable low end LB-2 of late. That should be much of a surprise as previous linebackers that played this position like Nick Barnett and Bishop have had sound success. This weeks’ game against the Bears should be a blowout, like when Smith posted 10 tackles against the Raiders two weeks ago, as the Bears are likely to stay with the running game, even when behind.
