Championship Round – RB Rankings
Ray Rice @ Patriots –
Playing against one of the better defenses in football Ray Rice failed to put up start worthy numbers in his first playoff game of the year. Heading to New England, Rice will play against the team he had his best playoff performance against a few years ago when he broke off an 80-yard touchdown run on the first play of the game.
The Ravens have come close to finding the Super Bowl in recent years, and this could be Ray Lewis’s last legit chance to finally get back to the big game. While the Ravens performance was a little disappointing against Houston, it should be an emotion game this week for Baltimore as they will need a great effort from the entire team to win in New England.
Great defense and keeping Tom Brady off the field will be key for a victory, so expect Rice to touch the football no less than 30 times this week if the Ravens are winning time of possession.
Frank Gore vs. Giants –
The last time San Francisco played New York in their week ten matchup, Frank Gore tried to play through a leg injury but failed to gain a yard on the ground on six carries. At half time the 49ers switched to Kendall Hunter, and he had success on the ground, as the Giants eased up on selling out to stuff the run with Gore out of the game.
While Gore had a couple of nice runs last week, I believe it will be crucial for him to find a way to run for close to 100 yards on the ground, if the 49ers are to win this game. San Francisco did a great job on defense throughout most of their game against the Saints, but because the 49ers failed to sustain any time consuming drives through most of the second half of the game; the defense was on the field a long time, and it finally led to big plays at the end of the game.
Last week, the Packers did a good job on the ground as the Giants tried to take away the deep ball from Aaron Rodgers, and while that game plan probably won’t be the same this week, Gore is healthy, and should find success, on Sunday, as it’s hard to contain him throughout an entire game.
