2012 QB Busts / Overvalued

Photo By: Ron Chenoy / US PRESSWIRE

Because the NFL has gone so pass heavy and it appears the trends of Eli Manning’s value are tailing back where they belong (low end QB1) I only have two quarterbacks to take note of in our Bust section, at the start of camp.

Busts – QB | RB | WR | Sleepers

Peyton Manning (8th, 6.09) –

Don’t get me wrong, Peyton Manning should still be viewed as a worthy starter in twelve team leagues and will have starting value in ten team leagues but I’m not sure he’s an every week option. At least not early in the season, as the Broncos play the Steelers week one and the Texans week three.

Manning still has yet to make all the throws in the route tree at the start of camp, and coming off a lost season, it’s only fair to think he will have some kinks to work out.

Matt Schaub (15th, 11.02) –

Back in the day Schaub had fantasy value but it was more because of the Texans overall situation that made him a top ten fantasy quarterback, not his skill set. The game scripts have dramatically changed in recent years as the Texans now have a dominant ground game and one of the prime defenses in football.

Basically the need to throw the football isn’t great, and while I hold out hope for second year receiver Lestar Jean, the Texans are still lacking at receiver help beyond Andre Johnson. Don’t look to Schaub as a respectable backup in ten team leagues, as he’s more of a matchup play off the waiver wire.
