ADP Trends – Running Backs
Photo By: Vincent Pugliese / US PRESSWIRE
We see a few running backs come out of nowhere to give fantasy owners production every year. While other names like Isaac Redman and Rashard Mendenhall are going off the board in recent mock drafts, fantasy owners are neglecting to draft the tailback who has a chance to start week one.
Isaac Redman Falling / Jonathan Dwyer Fantasy Relevant
Don’t bother looking for Jonathan Dwyer’s name on the list below because you won’t find him. In fact, if you decided to participate in a mock draft over at Fantasy Football Calculator, you would have to scroll all the way down to the likes of Clinton Portis and Fred Taylor just to find his name on their depth chart.
While Dwyer has struggled to get on the field in his career, his weight issues seem to be in control and he has a chance to open the season as the Steelers starting running back.
Veteran Isaac Redman was inline to start and became a hot name in fantasy circles just before his groin injury caused the Steelers to react and activate Rashard Mendenhall off the PUP list. Since activating Mendehall the Steelers have admitted they don’t expect him to be ready until at least week five.
Speedster Chris Rainey will be in the mix for passing downs, but like we saw on his first touch against the Colts, durability could be a problem for the undersized runner.
We need to keep a close eye on Redman’s situation. While he’s unlikely to require surgery, it’s possible he can re-aggravate the injury at any time. His injury is a shame, as I thought Redman would be ready for a breakout season but a severe groin problem could ruin a great opportunity. Look to Dwyer as a terrific late round addition.
