ADP Trends – Top 100

Running backs continue to dominate the early portion of  recent mock drafts with nine going off the board in the first thirteen picks. Around the mid-second round we have a breaking point were ADP trends are showing us fantasy owners are opting more for elite talents at other positions as five receivers, two tight ends and two quarterbacks are gone in the next eighteen picks.

For most of the summer my thoughts on the first three rounds has veered towards going with three running backs, opting to trust the depth at the receiver and quarterback positions.

I’m starting to change that thinking mainly because between the fourth and sixth round you still have Darren Sproles, Ahmad Bradshaw, Michael Turner, Doug Martin, Frank Gore, Reggie Bush, BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Willis McGahee and a personal favorite of mine Peyton Hillis.

While I still suggest you go with two running backs in the first three rounds, acquiring one of the big five quarterbacks, elite tight ends like Ron Gronkowski, Jimmy Graham or wide receiver Calvin Johnson as one of your first three picks is a good idea.

TE1 Talent Thinning Out

Especially the tight ends, because we should be concerned about the depth of TE1 caliber options after news on Jason Witten’s spleen and Fred Davis having a quite training camp as Robert Griffin is looking to other players in the passing game. Don’t forget about Jermichael Finley on this list of concerning talents.

Finley has the ability and situation to be a top five fantasy tight end, but his problems with health continued early in camp with a concussion. Backup D.J. Williams has done some good things this off-season. Don’t expect Williams to push Finley for a starting job, but if Finley goes down, and Williams flashes on the field, we could see the Packers opt to hold Finley out until he’s “fully healed” from an ailment.
