Cowboys Banged Up At Receiver

Tony Romo has the ability to be a quality QB1 option, this much we know. However with Miles Austin, Jason Witten and now Dez Bryant all battling through injuries, its past time to view him as a backup.

That said, we’ve seen Romo turn receivers you may not have known much about like Austin and Laurent Robinson into house hold names in fantasy circles.

Both Kevin Ogletree and Cole Beasley were impressive against the Chargers and could emerge as favorites of Romo’s if Bryant and Austin should miss time early in the season. Keep an eye on how they’re used in the third week of the preseason, as Dallas will have to give these guys expanded playing time with the first team.

Vick’s Health Problems

This is starting to get ridiculous and I’m bailing on Vick as anything more than a late QB1 option. Vick still struggles to play within the pocket and refuses to brace himself to minimize his injuries as a runner. In the Eagles first preseason game Vick injured the thumb on his throwing hand and then suffered a rib injury against the Patriots.

As Eagles beat-writer Sheil Kapadia pointed out Vick broke two ribs last November against the Cardinals but thankfully, it appears he didn’t break anything this time.

Still, Vick is an injury prone player and will miss time during the year. I want to draft a starter not feeling like I have to back him up in a few round for fear he will find the trainers table every week. Not to mention the week(s) you have him in your lineup and he goes down, he’s done nothing to help you after his injury.

Quizz A 3-Down Back?

Jacquizz Rodgers has received buzz in fantasy circles this off-season and with good reason. The Falcons will continue to go with an up-tempo offense and Rodgers skill-set fits that style of play.

Falcons beat-writer D. Orlandon Ledbetter is a name to trust and when he points out that Rodgers can be a 3-down back, I’m a believer. If something should happen to Michael Turner, we are looking at an instant RB2 with upside from there.

Jermaine Gresham Still Working Back From Knee Injury

The Bengals former first-round pick has a chance to be the No.2 receiver in this offense, even though he’s a tight end. Gresham will be an active player in this offense but first he needs to get back on the field after suffering a knee injury. Scale him back as a TE2 with upside and he will give you quality depth.

Hillman Hopeful To Play Week Three Of Preseason

Love Ronnie Hillman but the dude just hasn’t been on the practice field most of this month because of a hamstring injury.

Back in practice for almost a week now, and has a shot to play in the teams third preseason game. Obviously this is important for Hillman to get work in, but because he’s a rookie, he would see time in the fourth week of the preseason, so we should get to see him in action.

Because Hillman has missed time, Lance Ball is likely to begin the season as Willis McGahee’s backup, but that should change as we moved deeper into October.

 Vincent Brown Chargers No.1 Receiver?

How much do I like Vincent Brown?

Well, even though the kid snapped his ankle on a touchdown catch over the weekend, I still made a trade for him in one of my dynasty leagues. Brown was pushing Robert Meachem for a starting job and would’ve passed him because he’s a much better route runner and outside of blazing speed, Brown is just better than Meachem in all phases.

Apparently I’m not the only on still excited about Brown’s future on the Chargers as according to Kevin Acee (trusted name for all things Chargers) one of his veteran teammates called him the teams best receiver!

Now when he says receiver, I’m sure he’s talking about the receiver position and not including tight end Antonio Gates. Just remember Brown for the future, because he has game and will be a solid player in fantasy leagues down the road.
