Usually it seems to take a few years before defenses start to roll coverage over to a younger receiver, rather than an established All Pro receiver on the other side. With this in mind, it only made sense to consider Julio Jones as the better fantasy option in Atlanta.

While Roddy White has been one of the better receivers in the game over recent years, teams view him as more of a possession receiver rather than a vertical threat. Because of this, it only makes sense that teams would look to give Jones extra attention as a vertical threat and that seems to be what’s going on through the first month.

Any way you dice it up, White is benefiting from Jones’s presence in the offense and the improved play of quarterback Matt Ryan. Could be wrong but of all White’s touchdowns last year, I believe he only had one outside the red zone and that came against the Jaguars week fifteen.

Jones will produce like a WR1 this year, but perhaps he will struggle at times dealing with more than single coverage, as he continues to develop as a receiver. In the meantime, White should earn our trust as a top five option at the receiver position going forward.
