Week 7 – RB Rankings

Ahmad Bradshaw was only he second running back to go over 100 yards in a game against the 49ers in San Francisco’s last 44 contests. The other running back, Marshawn Lynch who did so late last season. Both running backs also found the end zone against the 49ers, which is also a tough thing to do.

Watching the 49ers meltdown against the Giants on Sunday, it will be interesting to see if they can hold up physically after being on the field so long, and playing on short rest.

You know the Seahawks are going to be motivated not only to beat a division rival, but to win one for Pete Carroll as he takes on Jim Harbaugh.

Seattle will to exactly what the Giants were able to do to San Francisco’s offense last week and that is stop the run, and force the 49ers to win throwing the football. While Seattle doesn’t have the same pass rush as New York, they are a much better defense against the run and against the pass.

Lynch should be on the field often and we could easily see the 49ers give up another 100-yard performance on Thursday. Then again, San Francisco is a prideful team in their own right, and I’m sure they don’t want that to happen to them twice, especially at home.

Unlike most Thursday night games, this will be a playoff like game and the hitting will start early and won’t end until the game is over. Lynch is obviously a must start and should have a good game.

What Did We Learn From Week Six

- Mikel Leshoure failed to find the end zone but had a much better performance against the Eagles than his game vs the Vikings before the bye week. Leshoure will have an extra day to rest up before the Lions play on Monday night so consider him a fair RB2 play as we trudge through the bye weeks.

Leshoure’s long-term value for the season also received an increase today as Jahvid Best was declared done for the season.

- Alex Green didn’t have big stats against the Texans but he was impressive as the starter and is a good fit for what the Packers want to do on offense. The Packers are telling us what they think of Green and the rest of the running game by the way they used him, which means he will be the main option in the running game with John Kuhn spelling him at times.

I don’t expect James Starks to be a threat to his time on the field and with Brandon Saine suffering a torn ACL, Green has one less running back to contend with. He’s a good flex option from this point forward and should have a productive game against the Rams this week.

Sean’s Week Seven Watch List

- Chris Johnson has faced two teams that run a base defense with only three down lineman and in both of those games he has had his best performances. While he will face a base 4-3 defense in Buffalo, he had one of his better performances of last season against this team a year ago.

Coming off a big win at home and a week and a half to get ready, I like the Titans odds of playing a good game and Johnson should give us a respectable performance.

- Both C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson looked much better against the Cardinals and I expect both to have good games against the Titans this week. Jackson played without his knee brace last week, so consider this a terrific sign that he’s close to full speed and ready to perform at a RB2 to flex play weekly.

- While the Patriots lost to the Seahawks, it was probably the right move to throw the football 58 times. Because the run such a fast-paced offense, New England still ran the football 28 times and it was Ridley that had the majority of the touches with 16 on the day.

Expect Ridley and the rest of the Patriots running game to get back on track against the Jets this week.

- Darren McFadden has arguably his best game as a pro against the Jaguars a couple of years ago. Playing them this week, expect McFadden to light up the scoreboard, once again.
