Week 8 IDP – LB Rankings

It was a frustrating beginning to Luke Kuechly’s career as we had a hard time figuring out just what to make of his role, or changes in role(s) in the Panthers linebacking core, through preseason and September. It appears the talented rookie has finally settled in at middle linebacker, and with Jon Beason done for the year, his job is secure going forward.
Situation has a lot to do with Kuechly vaulting up to No.2 on my rankings this week because performance wise, I’m a little disappointed that he only has 27 solos out of his 51 tackles. What helps make up for that is his numbers in pass protection with 3 defended passes and an interception.
When it comes to big plays Kuechly won’t be much of an option for the blitz and he’s not really a thumper on contact so his fumbles will be limited. It will be up to his skills in the passing game to help us out in the big-play department.
Still, the Panthers offense keeps the defense on the field a decent amount of the time and we’ve seen this linebackers thrive for LB1 production because of the situation they have. Consider Kuechly next in line for weekly LB1 production from Carolina.
Sean’s Week 8 Watch List
– With Sean Lee gone for the year, we need to have Bruce Carter on our radar on the waiver wire and in our lineups this week. We’ve waited for Carter to emerge as a potential option in IDP leagues, but injury and mistakes have cost him opportunities, not to mention Lee’s presence on the field.
Now, Carter will have a chance to step up and make more plays and he should hold LB2 value for us going forward. Let’s see how he does against the Giants this week.
– Finally, Colin McCarthy was back at full practice on a Wednesday and if doesn’t have a set back, this is a good sign he may be ready for a full compliment of snaps. When at full-strength McCarthy has the skills to be a top five linebacker in IDP leagues, but let’s cosider him a low-end LB2 this week.
– London Fletcher has a hamstring injury and we should expect Perry Riley to benefit from his health issues.
