Week 9 – TE Rankings

Brandon Myers only received three targets against the Chiefs but credit his light usage to the Raiders posting a rare big lead on their opponent. On the other hand, Myers did made the most of his opportunities with three receptions for 49 yards on the day.

While Denarius Moore is starting to emerge as the Raiders top receiver and Darrius Heyward-Bey has successfully returned from a scary hit leading to a concussion back in September, the Raiders are still in need of help in the passing game.

Myers has decent skills and should continue to be Carson Palmer’s favorite target over the middle of the field. He’s capable of more and we should look to Myers as a possible option to use, if you’re frustrated with your usual starter in what has proved to be a frustrating month at the tight end position for fantasy leagues.

What Did We Learn From Week 8?

Jason Witten and Rob Gronkowski were fabulous, Jimmy Graham came back with a solid performance and Health Miller found the end zone again.

Other than that, it was a horrible week for tight ends. I can’t blame you if you want to bench players like Antonio Gates and Kyle Rudolph but at this point we don’t have much to look to for another option. I’m on board with moving away from Rudolph at least until we see Christian Ponder settle down and play more like the quarterback we saw in the first month of the season.

As for Gates, I think fantasy owners will have to keep rolling with him for awhile. He will have disappointing weeks and some really nice performances like his numbers against the Broncos a few weeks ago.

Sean’s Week 9 Watch List

- Logan Paulsen has been an active part of the Redskins offense since Fred Davis went down with a season-ending injury. Not sure that Paulsen will emerge as a weekly starter but he can help you through the bye weeks as Mike Shanahan has a history keep his tight ends active in the passing game.

- Targets have been down for Tony Gonzalez in recent weeks but I believe that has more to do with struggles against the Raiders as a team and the Falcons rolling up a big lead on the Eagles early on. In what is turning out to be a bit of a down year for the tight end position, Gonzalez is clearly a safe starter in your lineup.

If the Cowboys can maintain the momentum they had on offense in the second half against the Giants, this should be a high-scoring game.
