Week 10 – QB Rankings

It’s been a bad few weeks for fantasy owners with Eli Manning but if there’s a time to give up on him in your lineup, this isn’t the week. We should expect to hear those in the media talk about the possibility of Manning being in a “slump” but he’s playing the Bengals this week people.
Two weeks ago, the Giants built up a 23 to nothing score against the Cowboys because Dallas was so pathetic on offense they turned the ball over at will and even gave up a defensive touchdown.
New York is struggling to throw the football especially from the 30-yard line in. Still, the Bengals have been a friendly play for quarterbacks all year and that won’t change this week. Andy Dalton and the passing game will do a good job keeping up with the Giants, forcing them to score more points and throw for more yards in the second half of the game.
The Bengals defense has struggled in the secondary all year and Manning will take advantage of them, as he’s proven to do a good job handling high pressure situations. He will come under fire this week from some in the media, and he will respond. Keep him in the lineup.
What Did We Learn From Week 9?
- Maybe Andy Dalton doesn’t prescribe to the saying, “if you’re not cheating you’re not trying” but his play is more like ” if you’re not slinging it, you’re not trying” this year. Because of the Bengals problems on defense and in the running game, Dalton is averaging just under 36 passing attempts per game on the season.
While Dalton set the franchise record with eight straight games with an interception, we shouldn’t fear using him in our lineups. That said, let’s not get it twisted what Dalton is at this point in his career, a matchup play quarterback who will have his ups and downs.
This week should be a good one for Dalton as he takes on a Giants secondary that has struggled most of the year against the pass. Dalton will hit the turf and possibly throw an interception or two, but he should also throw for over 300 yards and at least two scores.
- On pace for over 4,800 pass yards this season, is it time to wonder if Andrew Luck can throw for 5,000 yards this season? With two games against the Texans still on his schedule, the odds aren’t in his favor, but Luck is certainly laying the foundation of a quarterback who will be good for a long time.
Only ten touchdown passes on the season, we should have some reservations each week about his odds of putting the football in the end zone more than one time in a game. Still, Luck is a threat around the goal line for rushing touchdowns and is sure to have another strong performance against Jacksonville.
In their first meeting of the season, Luck threw for over 300 yards, threw two touchdowns and ran for 50 yards. He’s a QB1 option this week after throwing for 433 yards last week.
Sean’s Week 10 Watch List
- Doug Martin’s monster performance in the second half against the Raiders, sapped Josh Freeman’s opportunities for a big game in Oakland. Freeman still had two touchdown passes and close to 250 yards passing on the day. This week presents an interesting matchup as the Chargers are playing good football on defense, and Vincent Jackson will matchup against his old team.
Consider Freeman a QB1 option but because of the matchup I have him outside the top five quarterbacks.
- Cam Newton didn’t have a monster performance against the Redskins secondary but he did have over 20 fantasy points in most leagues. I still take issue with the Panthers play calling in the passing game and especially the running game.
Playing against a better defense this week, it will be up to Steve Smith to find a way to beat Champ Bailey to keep Newton on schedule for start-worthy numbers. Then again, if Newton plays mistake-free football, maybe he can just have one of those 100-yard rushing, two touchdowns on the ground type of efforts to bail you out. We will see.
