Week 10 – Team Defense Rankings

If Forrest Gump were an NFL annalist he would probably say, “the Raiders are like a box of chocolate, you never know what you’re gonna to get.” With that said the Ravens defense sets up to be a boom or bust start option this week on defense.

Give some credit to the Ravens for holding the Browns out of the end zone last week. Part of their success was the youth in Cleveland’s offense, because they certainly didn’t have a problem getting into the red zone throughout the game.

What the Ravens defense needs is the offense to build a big lead early and we should like the odds of that happening after Doug Martin torched the Raiders for 251 yards and four touchdowns. Martin is often compared to Ray Rice and I’m sure Rice owners everywhere are hoping the veteran can come close to duplicating the rookies efforts this week.

Consider this defense a roll of the dice with the up side for big numbers.

What Did We Learn From Week 9?

- The Bears are ridiculously good this year, especially when it comes to turnovers and the Titans were embarrassingly bad at home. Charles Tillman is a Pro Bowl player and one of the better IDP options at this position, but when a corner has four forced fumbles in a game, you know it’s time for someone to get fired in Tennessee.

- Whether it’s the pass or run the Seahawks are failing to live up to expectations on defense. Last week was a golden opportunity to put up big numbers, and it would’ve happened if the run defense showed up.

This secondary can size up average to below average quarterbacks and make big plays. I’m willing to give them one more shot as a top five defense playing at home, against the Jets.

Sean’s Week 10 Watch List

- For the second year in a row the Steelers defense has rebounded from poor play early on that would suggest the defense was over the hill. If Eli Manning could only throw for 125 yards against this secondary, what will Brady Quinn or Matt Cassel do this week?

If the Steelers are sitting out on your waiver wire this would be a good week to pick them up.

- While the Panthers came away with a victory in Washington, they still puzzle me as an offense. At one point DeAngelo Williams or Jonathan Stewart will go off for a big run, only to have the offensive coordinator call on Mike Tolbert to run, and completely go away from what or who is working.

Expect the Broncos to put up reasonable numbers as Denver’s defense is playing better football than the Redskins defense at this point.
