Fantasy Football Outlook: A new coaching staff in town and as of May Buddy Nix handed
his GM job to three year understudy Doug Whaley. No surprise a first round quarterback was drafted this spring as the Bills selected E.J. Manuel from Florida State.
While Manuel will be the quarterback of the future I’m not sure he will start week one as even the Bills coaching staff has admitted he needs work refining his mechanics. While I like Manuel as one of the better quarterbacks to come out in his class, sitting him should be the right way to go, because he was graded out by many draftniks as a quarterback that needed some work.
Expect Kevin Kolb to start for the first month or two depending on how well he plays and if he can stay healthy through that time.
Manuel has a bright future with the weapons old GM Nix added in the draft with talented receivers like Robert Woods, Marquise Goodwin and Da’Rick Rogers, not to mention tight end Chris Gragg as an interesting development player.
Stevie Johnson is locked into a contract for the next few seasons, and C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson will not only give Buffalo a respectable ground game, but they are both weapons in the passing game. Add it up, and while Manuel will have his struggles in his rookie year he should flash at times and show his dynasty owners a glimpse of what could be in the future.
Look to Manuel as the first quarterback off the board in dynasty leagues but stay away from him in redraft unless your in a 14-team league that starts two quarterbacks.
