Fantasy Football Outlook: Getting ready for my rookie dynasty drafts, if you looked at my board before the NFL draft Franklin was at the top of the list. Loved watching this guy play at UCLA and I’m absolutely sold he will be a star at the next level.
Unfortunately most of us know the story by now all too well with Franklin somehow falling into the 4th round and the Packers trading up to acquire him after drafting Eddie Lacy in the 2nd round.
I wasn’t in position to do so (during my rookie drafts), but I did recommend that if fantasy owners were choosing between Franklin and Lacy in dynasty drafts that they should go for Franklin first. I don’t believe Lacy will stay healthy and at some point Franklin is going to show too much on the field and he should earn a starting role.
Then again, this could turn into a Jonathan Stewart, DeAngelo Williams situation where it never truly shakes out that one back becomes the feature option while the other is just a change of pace player.
It’s a shame because Franklin isn’t the youngest back in this years class of rookies as he turns 24 before the season is over. While Lacy may go ahead of Franklin in redraft leagues, I will be sitting back and when the time is right, I will pickup Franklin and sit on him.
We could see something from DuJuan Harris as well, but I believe if both rookie running backs have successful, healthy training camps they will pass him on the depth chart. Look to Franklin as a must have hand cuff if you should decide to invest a 5th round pick in Lacy this summer.
