Fantasy Football Outlook: As soon as next season I wouldn’t surprise me to see Keenan Allen as the Chargers No.1 option in the passing game. Talent wise this guy was one of the top five receivers in this class and should have been a first-round pick.
I find it ridiculous that he fell into the third round but the Chargers wisely took a chance on the productive talent from Cal.
As for this season, Allen may have to wait to find a starting job because Vincent Brown is returning from an ankle injury that derailed what would’ve been a breakout second year. Danario Alexander instead had a breakout season and has earned a starting job from his play.
We could even see veteran Malcom Floyd hold onto a starting job or the WR.3 job on the team because of his long-time work in the Chargers offense and his chemistry with quarterback Philip Rivers.
All that said, it is Allen that has the raw talent to be the main possession receiver of the bunch but that isn’t to make light of the skill-set Brown has as a route runner or his hands. All of a sudden, the Chargers have a deep talented receiving core again, and Allen is a name to remember, even if he’s overlooked by fantasy owners (and rightfully so) in his rookie season.
The one thing that could hurt Allen over the coarse of his career is nagging injuries which were a problem for him with the Bears and that is something dynasty owners should consider before drafting him over other talents at his position in rookie drafts.
