Fantasy Football Outlook: While Daniel Thomas continues to believe he’s still in the plans of the Dolphins future, the selections of Lamar Miller last year and Mike Gillislee this year aren’t ringing endorsements in his favor.
Thomas has failed to live up to his second round selection expectations and I’m not sure he will even beat out Gillislee on the depth chart by the end of camp. Perhaps, but consider Gillislee as a future option to play behind Miller or possibly earn a starting job if Miller should have health problems while handling the starting job.
More of a thumper Gillislee won’t be a game breaker in the open field and I’m not sure we will see more than 10 to 15 receptions in a given season. Still, he has the makup of a short-yardage back so we could see him steal touchdowns from Miller around the goaline.
A player to keep in mind as the season moves along in redrafts, but for now he should be left off redraft cheat sheets. In dynasty leagues, he’s a perfect pickup in the third round for Miller owners and those that are in need of rebuilding the running game, around that area. I wouldn’t consider him higher than that, even in deep leagues because of his lack of explosion, limited role in the passing game, and Miller’s presence in the offense.
