Fantasy Football Outlook: The first skill position player off the board in this years draft, Austin could be rookie of the year in an exciting up start offense. Yes, the Rams will attack via the passing game in what should be a breakout season for Sam Bradford.
While Chris Givens, Jared Cook and others will be in the mix, I expect Austin to be the top fantasy option in this passing game. Austin won’t only be used in the slot but he will see time out of the backfield like we’ve seen with other receivers like Percy Harvin and Randall Cobb.
Austin proved to be a durable player in college and if that can transfer over to the pro game he would then have future WR1 potential. It appears the love for Austin is strong in fantasy circles as we see him going 27th off the board are receiver in 12 team ADP trends.
Not sure if I would take him that high because I think you can get some other established receiver at that point, but if Austin has a strong camp and avoids nagging injuries through the preseason, he could move up my board to that area.
It should be a fun year on offense for the Rams as Bradford has the weapons to succeed and just as important the talent on the offensive line to give him time to throw the football. Look to Austin as a WR4 with WR2 potential if things fall the right way in St. Louis for his rookie season.
As for dynasty rookie drafts, Austin is clearly a top five choice and I wouldn’t blame you if you took him first overall.
