Fantasy Football Outlook: Ahmad Bradshaw is gone to Indianapolis and the starting job is wide open for second year back David Wilson to win. That should happen but don’t forget about Andre Brown in this offense as the Giants have a history of using two running backs.

Wilson should hold RB2 status even with Brown likely winning the goal-line job, and we could see him explode for a yard per carry average over 5.5 on the season. Wilson is electric and if he’s ready to make a big impact on the Giants offense, it should be just what they need to get back to the playoffs.

New York will need a good ground game to keep the defense off the field. This is a group designed to play with a lead and will continue to struggle against the run, if the Giants offense isn’t up to playing well.

Look to Wilson as a top 20 running back on draft day and he’s a decent low-end RB2 but would be a terrific third running back if you plan on taking all running backs in the first three rounds.

Summer of 2012: Fantasy Projection

The Giants aren’t known for drafting running backs high, so consider their selection of David Wilson in the first round, an interesting choice. Wilson won’t be the starter, unless Ahmad Bradshaw should have continued problems with his feet.

Expect Bradshaw to wear down at some point, and Wilson will be a valuable hold in fantasy leagues.

Wilson’s never-say-die attitude, is a plus and a minus depending of he’s wise enough to know when to go down. Not the biggest guy, I have to wonder whether Wilson will be more like Cadillac Williams?

Matt Waldman put together a great two-part writeup on the pros and cons of Wilson’s game coming out of college. I recommend you take some time and read them, if you’re considering Wilson in your dynasty league.

Impressing In Camp

Early in OTAs Wilson is impressing this coaches and teammates, and that shouldn’t be a surprise to us. What will be important to see is if he can develop the patience to wait for his holes to open up, when the lights turn on, in the preseason?

In my dynasty drafts this summer, I have Wilson ranked as the third running back to target off the board, behind the obvious choices of Trent Richardson and Doug Martin. Look to Wilson as a player you will have to hold on your depth chart early, but he could help you win a championship, if and when Bradshaw goes down.
