Fantasy Football Outlook: The Browns selected Josh Gordon as a 2nd round supplemental pick in July and while it seemed like a high price at the time, it sure looks like a good move now. Gordon has the talent to be a No.1 receiver in the NFL and based on his numbers will no OTA time and not much experience in college, we should be encouraged about his future.

It will be his dedication to his craft and staying out of trouble that will be the real factors weather Gordon will have a long career, but thus far it appears all is well.

This off-season Gordon’s stock moved up when the team brought in Norv Turner to run the offense. While Turner has proven to be an average at best Head Coach in the league, he’s an excellent Offensive Coordinator and Gordon will benefit as Turner loves to use play action off his running game, setting up big plays down the field.

Gordon could breakout for over 1,100 yards and eight or more touchdowns but we shouldn’t back on that to happen. We don’t know if Brandon Weeden will take another step in his progression as a starter, and defenses will prepare for Gordon this year after he touched some teams in 2012.

Going as a WR3 in ADP trends as of June for standard leagues, Gordon is a nice fit for your team. In big-play performance leagues I like him as a top 25 receiver but temper your expectations for him in PPR leagues because theirs a good bet his upside for receptions in a given season will hover around 60.

Perhaps Gordon will develop into an 80 reception receiver over time, but I need to see him round his game out and for Weeden to show consistent success in what will be a run heavy offense.

July Update: With Gordon’s suspension we will have to wait a few weeks before we can use him. I still believe he’s a worthy WR3 when he comes back.
