2013 Fantasy Outlook: Ryan Tannehill
Ryan Tannehill | Miami Dolphins | QB
2013 Experience: 2nd Season

Fantasy Football Outlook: Tannehill didn’t have the stats that fellow rookies Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin or Russell Wilson, nor did he lead his team to the playoffs. But make no mistake Tannehill had a successful rookie season in Miami.
First off Tannehill had little experience in college and was asked to come in and start week one with by far the worst receiving corps in football. Tannehill was praised for his pocket poise when the pocket collapsed around him, and we know he has the physical tools to be a top ten quarterback in the NFL.
With the additions of Mike Wallace and Dustin Keller, the Dolphins second-year quarterback should take another step in his progression. I wouldn’t be surprised if Tannehill posts close 4,000 yards passing and leads the Dolphins to a .500 record, but don’t expect more than that.
We should be concerned about his left tackle situation as they let Jake Long walk in free agency, then failed to draft one of the big three tackles in the draft (even though they had a chance to do so) and then balked on a trade for Brandon Albert.
That means GM Jeff Ireland has left the coaching staff with last years second-round pick Jonathan Martin to man the left side. This will be interesting as Martin was knocked for his strength and athleticism coming out of Standard and was pegged as a right tackle.
I’m disappointed in Ireland, and I also don’t understand why he would sign Brandon Gibson to a multi-year deal and then trade Davone Bess. Bess is a natural slot receiver and Gibson nor Brian Hartline seem to be suited for that spot but it seems they will try to move Hartline in that role at times.
It’s moves around Tannehill like those that give me some pause about his odds to be a surprise breakout fantasy prospect in his second season. He has the tools to become an attractive waiver wire pickup, but for now he’s best left off your draft list unless you start two quarterbacks in your league.

Summer of 2012: Ryan Tannehill’s Fantasy Projection
One of the more interesting prospects coming out of the 2012 draft, if Ryan Tannehill works out, he could bring the Dolphins back from the gutter. At this point, that is exactly what they need, but hopefully we won’t see him on the field, until the later portion of the season.
Tannehill has the luxury of having his former college coach Mike Sherman on board with the Dolphins, so he shouldn’t have a hard time with being coached up, early on.
To learn more about what Tannehill brings to the table, I recommend you read up on the articles I have attached below. Draftnik Matt Waldman does a great job breaking down in detail what he’s seen from Tannehill in the pocket, and why he likes him as a prospect.
This is especially worth looking at if you’re considering him for your dynasty league, as it may give you further insight, into determining if you should hold him for future years.
An upside prospect, Tannehill will need time, and a much better receiving corps (worst in the league) before he has start-worthy upside. At this time, he’s just a dynasty prospect but could turn into a top ten fantasy quarterback in a few years.
