Fantasy Football Outlook: This could be a good time to pickup Jermaine Gresham on the cheep in redraft leagues. Yes the Bengals selected Tyler Eifert and yes its probably a sign that the team isn’t happy with the veterans play at this point in his career.

Still Gresham was a consistent option for fantasy leagues a year ago, and usually rookie tight ends have a hard time making an impact, at least early on. Eifert will be a part of the Bengals offense, no doubt about that but I would be shocked if he takes over as the inline starting option this year.

While the Bengals have some interesting young receivers fighting for the No.2 job opposite A.J. Green I’m not sold any of them will vault past Gresham as the No.2 option in the passing game.

As I wright this post Gresham is the 17th tight end off the board in ADP results, going just behind Eifert. I need to see more from Eifert to believe he will hold higher vale than Gresham in 2013, so consider the veteran a respectable late round TE2 option.

Summer of 2012: Fantasy Projections

Jermaine Gresham had a respectable second year, as Andy Dalton proved to be ready to handle the starting job from the get go. The drawback to having Dalton is he’s doesn’t have a strong arm, limiting Gresham’s big play upside.

The addition of Orson Charles in the draft is a little concerning but Gresham should hold onto the inline starting job, leaving Charles as a part-time Joker and backup.

Landing as the 14th tight end (12.08, 12 team) off the board in recent mock drafts, target Gresham as a solid TE2 that may play as a low end TE1 as the season moves along.

Summer of 2011: Fantasy Projections

It’s too bad that Carson Palmer is likely headed to another team as Jermaine Gresham could have been a candidate to start in twelve team leagues this season.

Instead it looks like the Bengals will be going with a rookie quarterback in Andy Dalton. While Gresham should continue to see activity he’s not worth considering at your draft.

2010 Preview

Jermaine Gresham should be the top performing fantasy tight end for this years rookie class. The Bengals wanted a receiving tight end to help Carson Palmer with more options and now they have their man.

2010 Fantasy Football Outlook

College / 2010 NFL Draft: Jermaine Gresham suffered cartilage damage in his knee last summer and missed the season as he had to undergo surgery to take care of it. This was just one of the big blows the Oklahoma Sooners would encounter as they were an early favorite to return to the Championship game and win it all.

After the season ended, Gresham opted to not red shirt for another season and went into the NFL draft. His situation was much like Sam Bradford’s in that he was expected to go out the year before and would’ve had high value if he did so. Because of past performance and skill, Gresham was the first tight end selected in the 2010 draft and was a first round pick by the Bengals.

2010 NFL Fantasy Football Player Rankings: Just after the draft it was thought that the Bengals would ease Grasham into the offense slowly. Soon after the draft, however, Gresham impressed his coaching staff at rookie camps and the team noticed he was in better shape to make an impact this year than they originally thought.

The Bengals don’t have a strong history of using their tight end in the passing game with regularity, but they didn’t get Gresham in the first round for nothing. This was a passing offense that struggled without weapons beyond Chad Ochocinco, and it caused this group to be very predictable come seasons end.

Knowing this the Bengals went out and signed Antonio Bryant to start opposite Ochochinco and drafted Gresham at tight end. With a need for production, Gresham should be much more involved in the teams passing offense than previous players years’ past.

For this season Gresham isn’t worth your consideration for fantasy as there are better tight ends for production than I’ve seen maybe ever. Still, we need to keep an eye on Gresham’s production as the year moves along and he cracks the starting lineup.

Eventually, I would anticipate, he will start being a fantasy relevant player but probably not this season.
