2013 ADP Trends: Team Defense / ST

Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense has generated some buzz in fantasy circles this off-season and it’s understandable with additions like corner Darrelle Revis and safety Dashon Goldson. While the secondary will improve overall I’m concerned about their fantasy prospects, in light of former starting corner Eric Wright being cut from the team on Monday.

Yes, Tampa did draft his replacement in talented second-round pick Johnthan Banks but they are now counting on a rookie to emerge as a starter week one, coupled with unproven youth behind him on the depth chart.

With Matt Ryan and Drew Brees in the division you can bet these quarterbacks and others will look to target Banks, while spreading the Buccaneers out with three or four receivers, challenging their inexperienced depth chart.

Keep an eye on the Buccaneers to see if they add or trade for a veteran who can play in sub-packages and fill in as a starter if needed.

Where’s The Pass Rush?

Another problem is the pass rush as ownership waived good bye to 2012 sack leader Michael Bennett who signed a one-year contract with Seattle. The coaching staff will now lean on a pair of third-year pros in Da’Quan Bowers and Adrian Clayborn to provide pressure on the edge.

Both have had injury problems in their past and Clayborn is coming off a lost season due to a leg injury.

It’s hard to see this team holding capable passing opponents like the Saints and Falcons under 20 points a game and I’m not sure we can count on this team for more than 25 sacks at this point. Those of you thinking they will pickup more coverage sacks, should temper expectations when you factor in a weak depth chart at corner after Revis.

Add it up and I believe the Buccaneers are worth targeting off the waiver wire, matchup play through the season but I would leave them off your list of top ten (currently 8th overall) options at the position for draft day.
