2013 ADP Trends: Tight Ends

Graham listed in the top twenty overall players in Fantasy Football Calculators top 150 players in standard leagues, but after that only one other tight end makes the top 50 (Rob Gronkowski at 40th) overall. Don’t be surprised if you see that number drop over the next week or two, as I’ve noticed him falling consistently towards the end of the 5th round of late.

Until Gronkowski starts to show us improvement that suggests he’s ready to play earlier than October, he will probably hover around the 5th round in August drafts. A terrific talent, but this is a player who has already missed a full season in college because of back surgery, so keep that in mind before you roll the dice on him in your real drafts.

Don’t Forget About The Colts Inline Starting Tight End

After Gronkowski and Graham we have a host of options that could provide respectable production in standard leagues, but one tight end I feel needs mention that is not on this list is Dwayne Allen. Just last night I was looking on FFC’s website to see if they actually forgot to put him in their database, but I found him towards the bottom of the tight end position.

If you look at the tight end ADP listings, you won’t find his name, but I believe that is in part because we have quality depth at the tight end position, and also because for some reason FFC has him listed so far down that many forget about him while drafting.

While many may think Coby Fleener is the top tight end to target in the Colts offense, Allen will have more touchdowns, receptions and yards as Fleener serves as more of a big-play option, but Allen is the steady go to pass catcher.

Don’t leave Allen off your draft list; Allen is a breakout option and deserves our consideration in the later rounds of mock drafts and real drafts this summer.
