When you hear things like the Buccaneers coaching staff is making a point to move Vincent Jackson around, lining up in the slot, it should get you excited about Jackson’s odds of another terrific season in Tampa Bay.

This spring I was a little concerned that Jackson’s numbers would take a slight dip from 2012, mainly because I didn’t expect the Buccaneers secondary to struggle the way it did a year ago with the additions of Darrelle Revis and Dashon Goldson.

While the Buccaneers defense should improve, Jackson will be the top target in the passing game and has proven he can handle double coverage in multiple offenses. Moving Jackson around to create miss-match opportunities keep Jackson involved by creating miss-match opportunities. Jackson has proven to have the personal drive for excellence, I have no problem targeting him as a low-end WR1 option.

Add in that quarterback Josh Freeman is looking for a new contract and we should expect the Buccaneers signal caller to pepper Jackson for a career high in receptions that could exceed 90 receptions on the season.

Only time will tell if Jackson can raise his production to the point of a possession receiver numbers, but we should at least expect him to give us top 12 production at his position and that’s not a bad downside for a receiver going in the fourth round of 10-team drafts this summer.

Danario Alexander Done For the Season

Sad news out of San Diego on Tuesday as 2012 breakout receiver Danario Alexander suffered another knee injury in his career, this time a torn ACL and he will be lost for the season. Look to Vincent Brown and Malcom Floyd to start week one.
Eventually Keenan Allen should replace Floyd, but Brown is a much talked about sleeper who is worthy a WR4 pick. I believe he will play at a consistent WR3 to low-end WR2 level because of his reliable hands and Philip Rivers can count on Brown to be where he’s supposed to be because of his route running ability.
