This up coming Sunday marks the final week of the regular season for many fantasy football leagues. For those of you that have Cedric Benson on your fantasy team it is time to get him in your starting roster.

For the past two weeks Benson has not played because of a hip problem that caused the team to sign Larry Johnson from free agency. Johnson, as we all know was shipped out of the Chiefs’ organization because of his disturbing comments on Twitter.

The Bengals gave Johnson a second chance and last week he ran for over 100 yards against the Browns. In that game Johnson didn’t start as Bernard Scott was Benson original backup and start both games in Benson’s absence.

During the game against the Browns, Scott suffered a turf toe injury and Johnson took over to finish the game.

Distribution of Carries

Head Coach Marvin Lewis made it known to everyone early this week that Benson would play this Sunday against the Lions and would start. Lewis and teammates cited that this team is Benson’s team and now that he is healthy it is his starting job to have back.

This only makes sense as Benson was having a Pro Bowl season before he was injured and has earned the job, without question.

Backing up Coach Lewis’s words, Benson practiced in full for every day of practice this week. This was the first time he had done so since before his injury week ten against the Steelers.

Now the only questions that remain are how much work will Benson get, and how much work will Johnson receive in fill in time?

Fantasy Football Outlook

Assuming Benson doesn’t suffer a setback, he should get most of the touches until the game is well in hand. Since the Bengals are playing the Lions this week I would expect them to have the game put away early in the fourth quarter.

Look for Johnson to pound out the final series or two of the game when the team has the win well in hand. Other than that Johnson will probably give Benson a breather here and there during the game.

I would expect Benson to have no less than 85 yards rushing and one touchdown in this easy rushing contest. Johnson could put up similar numbers as he will face the Lions’ defense at the end of the game when they are tired.

Benson is a must start for fantasy owners and Johnson makes for a sneaky flex option as well.

After this game, I don’t see Johnson as much of a fantasy option until they face the Chiefs week 16. Johnson has that game penciled in as a pay back game, and I’m sure Coach Lewis will give him at least twelve touches and a touchdown opportunity for his hard work.

What a game it was to see the Saints’ stomp all over the Patriots in all phases of the game. Drew Brees headlined a monumental victory that has now officially landed New Orleans on the map of true elite football teams.

As for Tom Brady and the Patriots, I haven’t given up hope for them to make a playoff run but the defense needs to step it up.

Below we have a short right up on the top ten teams on our power rankings for this season. These teams are important to know as they are playing well and should continue to help fantasy teams.

Furthermore, pay attention to the worst teams on the list as they are the teams you want to have your players going against down the stretch.

1. Saints (11-0)

After a huge decisive win against the New England Patriots the Saints are now a top our NFL Power Rankings once again. Drew Brees probably won the MVP award after he blasted the Patriots’ defense for five touchdowns and 371 yards passing on only 23 pass attempts!

This was an amazing performance and is one of those games that will be looked back on for a long time when people mention Brees and the Saints from this era. Look for New Orleans to roll over the Redskins next week and move to twelve and zero.

2. Colts (11-0)

The Colts haven’t won games in a pretty fashion the last month or so but they have won all their games. The Saints were this way until they stomped on the Patriots in a big time national televised game.

This up coming week the Colts will host the Titans in a big time clash of two strong teams. Look for the Colts to find a way to pull out another close victory.

3. Vikings (10-1)

It’s almost hard to remember the Steelers actually beating this team because the Vikings have played so well since that game. I actually had to look back at the schedule just to remember who actually beat this great team from Minnesota.

The Steelers had a few lucky turnovers and won the game in the fourth quarter, and I would suspect that is the only way a team can beat this squad. The Vikings are firing on all cylinders and are taking no prisoner’s.

Expect them to beat the Cardinals in Arizona this weekend by a decent margin.

4. Chargers (8-3)

This is a team I truly thought would never reach the top five teams in the NFL power rankings after the first month of play. Since losing to the Broncos in week six the Chargers haven’t lost a game and are winning in convincing fashion.

I fully expect them to smash the Browns next week in Cleveland. Get your fantasy football players in for that game.

5. Bengals (8-3)

After a quick dip to the Raiders two weeks ago the Bengals polished off the Browns at home. With Cedric Benson out the team turned to Bernard Scott and Larry Johnson to put the game away.

Both running backs had strong games and Johnson ran for over 100 yards. This week Benson is back and Scott has turf toe, so expect the Bengals to run Johnson and Benson together. There is no reason they shouldn’t beat the Lions this weekend.

6. Cowboys (8-3)

The Cowboys need to beat the Giants this weekend if they are going to win their division. Dallas has already lost to the Giants this year, and if they lose this game, they will only be one win better than the Giants.

That means if the Giants should mount a comeback and have the same record as Dallas than they will win the division. Look for the Cowboys to run the football and control the clock on the road.

7. Patriots (7-4)

Watching the Patriots get rolled over by the Saints only goes to show you that this team does not have the defense to be a Super Bowl team right now. I will never put it past this organization to put a run together in the playoffs but right now they are not a top five team in the NFL power rankings.

8. Cardinals (7-4)

The Cardinals lost a heart breaker to the Titans without Kurt Warner on the field. This weekend they may be without Warner again as they take on the Vikings at home. If the Cardinals lose this week and the 49ers win, than next week will be a huge game between the two in San Francisco.

It’s still a long shot for the 49ers to win the division, but if they do beat the Cardinals next week they will have the season sweep against them. If both teams comedown to a tie in record at the end than the 49ers would win the division in that scenario.

9. Eagles (7-4)

The Eagles pulled out a win against the lonely Redskins, but they had to do it in comeback fashion. In that game DeSean Jackson suffered a concussion and may miss this weeks tilt against the Falcons in Atlanta.

Even if Jackson is out I expect the Eagles to win the game with Matt Ryan and Michael Turner likely out.

10. Broncos (7-4)

The Broncos were able to stop their four game skid on Thanksgiving against Giants and won in convincing fashion. It looks like quarterback Kyle Orton is back and healthy as he had no problems finding his receivers all game long.

Expect the Broncos to make quick work of the Chiefs this weekend in Kansas City.

Another Thanksgiving and another team walks in and beats the pants off of the Detroit Lions. Hopefully the NFL will give this game to another team soon as I’m more than tired of watching the Lions pathetic performance on Thanksgiving year after year.

Driver fly’s, Jennings Die’s

This offseason I had Greg Jennings as the fifth best receiver for fantasy football coming into this year. I believed Aaron Rodgers was ready to take another step in his career (which he has) and that would make Jennings one of the best receivers to have in fantasy.

Unfortunately, what I didn’t count on was the fact that Rodgers would be so good at finding his third, fourth and fifth option in his passing game.

Not only that but I didn’t count on the Packers placing strong emphasis on spreading the ball around to six or seven guys weekly.

This miss evaluation has killed Jennings fantasy value and has disappointed (your’s truly) fantasy owners all yearlong. Too many weeks we see another receiver like Donald Driver, James Jones or another role player getting the touchdowns and not Jennings.

For the season Jennings has a measly three touchdown scores and that is just not going to cut it in fantasy for a No.1 receiver or a No.2 receiver on your fantasy team.

This week Driver had the big game as the Lions seemed content rolling a safety over to try and stop a three time pro bowl receiver. While that is probably the dumbest thing a team can do you can leave it to the sorry Lions to do just that.

Look for Jennings to continue to be a boom or bust player and usually on the bust side for the rest of the season.

Calvin Johnson Scores

Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson weren’t expected to play in this game as late as Wednesday night. On Thursday both ended up playing and Johnson got an early touchdown score.

That was about the only positive thing this offense did for the entire game as Johnson was noticeably banged up for the entire game.

Look for Johnson and Stafford to come back much healthier next Sunday as they now have ten days to rest and get ready.

Week 12 in the NFL is all about the Monday night contest between the Saints and Patriots. No doubt we should see a shootout that should rival the Patriots vs Colts’ game we saw a few week’s ago.

This week we have our weekly section on wounded warriors, as well as our top rankings for top position players. We have the top 16 ranked QB, TE, K and D/ST ranked. We also have the top 30 RB’s and top 35 WR’s as well.

Wounded Warriors

Quarterbacks

Lions- Matthew Stafford- Unfortunately, Matthew Stafford injured his collar bone in the Lions come from behind victory against the Browns. Even more disappointing for Stafford is that he was just starting to find his grove with over 400 yards passing and five touchdowns in that game.

It looks like Stafford will miss this week’s early contest on Thanksgiving, but he will hopefully be back for week 13.

Broncos- Kyle Orton- The Broncos starting quarterback Kyle Orton didn’t start the game against the Chargers, but it did finish it. On Monday Orton practiced with the team and should play on Thanksgiving against the Giants.

Steelers- Ben Roethlisberger- The Steelers star quarterback suffered a concussion in over time against the Chiefs. So far, signs look good for Ben Roethlisberger’s odds of playing this week at Baltimore.

If he is unable to go than Dennis Dixon will get the start because Charlie Batch is out for the next six weeks.

Cardinals- Kurt Warner- The Cardinals lost Kurt Warner to a mild concussion against the Rams in the first half. It looks like Warner should play against the Titans, but if he is unable to go than Matt Leinart would start.

Rams- Marc Bulger- Just as the Rams were starting to play some solid football, they lose their starting quarterback for three to six weeks with a fractured tibia. This will probably end Marc Bulger’s season as the team will look to Kyle Boller the rest of the way.

Running Backs

Falcons- Michael Turner- The Falcons are still playing mind games about Michael Turner’s status. At this time, I would say he won’t be a go, unless he can practice in full at some point this week. The likely hood of him playing or practicing this week is not strong.

Look for Turner to probably not play as Jason Snelling will have a great start this week against the Buccaneers.

Bengals- Cedric Benson- It’s unknown if Cedric Benson will play this week against division rival Cleveland Browns. Just like Michael Turner’s situation, I believe we will need to see Benson practice in order for him to play.

If Benson doesn’t play this week than Bernard Scott should have another productive day against the Browns.

Seahawks- Julius Jones- The news on Monday from Seattle is that Julius Jones is supposed to come back to practice this week. Being able to practice and handling contact are two separate things for Jones in his situation.

Against the Cardinals, he injured his ribs and had been bleeding in his lung.

Look for Jones to practice but don’t be surprised if he doesn’t play this weekend. If he does suit up this week I would be very surprised if he starts over Justin Forsett.

Bills- Marshawn Lynch- The Bills lost their starting running back in the middle of last week’s game against the Jaguars. For now, the Bills are saying that Marshawn Lynch is day to day with a shoulder injury.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Lynch plays this week against the Dolphins but check his status before their early game on Sunday.

Wide Receivers

Lions- Calvin Johnson- This is probably the most unfortunate injury of the week as Calvin Johnson was just getting his grove back. In Johnson’s great performance against the Browns, he injured his hand and knee again.

Right now, it is believed that he is very doubtful to play in the Lions early Thursday game on Thanksgiving. Hopefully, the Lions and fantasy football owners will get Johnson back for week 13.

The Vikings put the Lions away early in the fourth quarter as Brett Favre threw for over 340 yards passing. Not only did Favre have a strong game but Sidney Rice and Adrian Peterson had big games.

Rice and Peterson Dominate

It’s time to say that Sidney Rice is the true No. 1 receiver for the Vikings this season. The third year receiver is having a breakout season, and today he caught seven passes for 201 yards. This now gives Rice 786 yards receiving on the season already.

Start Rice every week from here on out and expect him to help you the rest of the way. Rice is a solid No.2 receiver for fantasy football teams going forward.

Running back Adrian Peterson got things going this week as he posted 133 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

Fantasy owners wanted to see Peterson get his production going again as he had a slow couple weeks against the Steelers and Packers.

Look for Peterson to put up a huge second half of the season and lead teams to the fantasy football playoffs.

Stafford and Johnson Look Off

Rookie Quarterback Matthew Stafford had one nice drive for a touchdown pass but that was about it in this one. Most of the game Stafford was harassed by the Vikings and was hit often after his throws.

Calvin Johnson had a better game statistically than last week against the Seahawks but he clearly looks out of rhythm right now.

Next week the Lions will face the Cleveland Browns, and I expect Johnson and Stafford to have much more success in that game.

The St. Louis Rams finally pick up their first win of the season against the Lions this weekend. The victory didn’t come until a fourth quarter touchdown run from Steven Jackson to put the Rams up 17 to 10.

Jackson Produces Big Day

Jackson’s biggest fault for fantasy football may be that his is too nice of a guy. This young running backs talent has been wasted on a horrible team for years now, and we will never truly see him dominate the way he could have if he was on a winner.

In this game, Jackson finally produced his first touchdown run of the season and had a very strong game overall. While this game no doubt helped fantasy owners to victory, they have waited all to long for a game like this from Jackson.

I do believe Jackson will have a solid second half of the season, but I’m not sure if he will ever be a true top five fantasy running back again. The Rams are not a good team and who knows when they will be even a respectable 8 and 8 team again.

Lions Scuffle

The Detroit Lions do have a victory this season and that is an improvement over last year. However, if they plan of winning two or more ball games this season, they will need their star receiver Calvin Johnson back and healthy.

Some people in the media thought Johnson would play this week on his bad knee, but he was listed as out for this contest.

Hopefully, Johnson will be back soon as the Lions and fantasy football owners need him in their lineup.

If you own Bears running back Matt Forte in your fantasy football league than this season has not been a fun one. Every week you’ve been waiting for Forte to breakout and start producing and each week (other than the Lions’ game) he has disappointed.

Forte Shows Life

This week Forte showed some fantasy life as he had 90 yards rushing and two touchdowns. The young running back also had 31 yards in the receiving game.

Hopefully, this will be the start of a strong second half for the Bears star running back. Fantasy owners will need this running back to produce for them if they are to get into the playoffs and win a championship.

Devin Hester Continues to Produce

Last week Devin Hester had eight receptions for over 100 yards and a touchdown. This week Hester had seven receptions for 81 yards and almost had a touchdown score at the end of the game.

Jay Cutler has clearly made Hester his No.1 receiver in the passing game and fantasy owners should start Hester every week.

Browns Offense is Horrible

The Browns’ offense is horrible, and you should start any and every fantasy defense that plays them every week.

No one around the NFL will accuse the Arizona Cardinals of winning football games by running the rock. This organization has struggled in the running game for most of its time as a franchise.

The difference between the past two seasons and most of the organization’s history is that they’ve found a way to win without a running game.

Waiting In The Wings

This season the Cardinals are averaging a mere 60 yards rushing per game and that is easily the worst in football.

Starting tail back Tim Hightower has only averaged over 2.8 yards per carry one game this season and has a season long run of seventeen yards.

This anemic running is the same success rate we saw from Hightower a season ago when he averaged 2.8 yards per carry for the entire season.

The other running back in this committee is first round pick Chris “Beanie” Wells and has a 3.9 yards per carry average this season. While Wells has done a good job on the ground he has fumbled the football three times in only 49 carries.

Another short coming in Wells game is that he’s not the strongest of blockers in pass protection. Over time, I expect Wells to improve as he gets more playing time and understands the speed at which an NFL game is played.

I base this solely on the fact that Wells is a physical beast, and once he is positioned correctly to take on a defender, he will be able to handle the physical aspect of the assignment.

Until Wells improves in these areas head coach Ken Whisenhunt will continue to start Hightower over his talented young rookie.

Success In the Running Game Will Come

While Wells may not be the starter on this team right now, he is starting to see more carries than his fellow teammate. Against the New York Giants, Wells carried the football fourteen times to Hightower’s four.

In those fourteen carries Wells accumulated 67 yards and a touchdown. On the touchdown score Wells did a very nice job of bouncing the run to the outside, stiff arming a defender and then turning on the speed to get to the end zone.

This run was telling in the sense that we haven’t seen a running back from Arizona be able to make that play in years. Maybe Thomas Jones or Johnny Johnson but those guys played on very bad Cardinal teams.

Wells has the opportunity to be the first talented young runner to start on a winning Arizona team in a long time. Not to mention playing with a high octane passing game that can score at any moment.

Once Wells gets himself established, he could easily become one of the more productive running backs in Cardinal history. Not to mention one of the more fantasy relevant runners from this organization as well.

Fantasy Football Outlook for Beanie Wells

At this time, if you can acquire Wells off the waiver wire, I would pick him up right away. This talented running back may only be a bye week fill in right now, but he should be a fantasy football starter by seasons end.

During the fantasy football playoff weeks ( weeks 14-16) Wells will face the 49ers, Lions and Rams. If Wells takes over as the starting running back at that time of the year his fantasy numbers could help you win a championship.

This week was a very interesting one for players on the waiver wire and past players worth picking up. One receiver that everyone was talking about two weeks ago was Cowboys’ receiver Miles Austin.

This week we needed to see if Austin could produce as Tony Romo’s main man. For the game Austin had another fabulous stat line as he totaled over 170 yards receiving and two touchdowns.

Austin is a true starter every week and is fast becoming one of the more dangerous fantasy receivers in the 2009 season.

Below we have the top players you might want to pay attention to, for waiver pickups. Even if you don’t select a waiver (or have already done so) it’s good to keep these names in mind for the future weeks.

Running Backs

Jets- Shonn Greene- Bye Week Nine

The time has come for Jets’ rookie running back Shonn Greene to be a fantasy football factor. Greene had been a non factor this year until Leon Washington went down with a broken fibula this past weekend.

Greene stepped in against the Raiders and did a heck of a job as he rumbled for 144 yards rushing and two scores.

Since Greene will now be Thomas Jones backup and will play every week you should pick him up in your league.

Cardinals- Chris “Beanie” Wells- Bye Week Four (Done)

Many fantasy football owners that drafted Chris “Beanie” Wells already gave up on him a few weeks ago. This past week Wells started to show why he is the better running back in Arizona with 67 yards rushing and a nice touchdown run.

For the game, Wells had 14 carries as Tim Hightower only had four. Look for Wells to slowly take more of a work load in the Cardinals’ offense.

Wells is at least worth holding onto for the fantasy playoffs in weeks 14 through 16. In those games, he plays the 49ers, Lions and Rams. This young man could do a lot of damage for your fantasy team in those weeks.

Wide Receivers

49ers- Michael Crabtree- Bye Week Six (Done)

I watched the 49ers – Texans’ game this weekend and was blown away by Michael Crabtree’s performance. Sure, he only had five catches for 56 yards, but he played nearly every snap on offense.

It is easy to see why Crabtree was a two time Fred Biletnikoff winner in college as he has a great pair of hands. On one play, he caught the back end of the football. To do something like that only shows that this youngster could be the real deal.

To see that Crabtree could play all the downs and play effectively, speaks volumes about what this kid was doing in his off time.

Crabtree may not be a fantasy starter right away, but he is no doubt worth holding onto.

Vikings- Sidney Rice- Bye Week Nine

I recommended Sidney Rice as a waiver pickup last week, and I’m doing it again. This kid is Brett Favre’s top target and is worth starting on your fantasy team. If you are in need of a receiver than this young man is a good option.

2009 has been another ruff ride for the Kansas City Chiefs and their faithful fans. Lost in the muck of this pathetic start to the season is the consistent production from top receiver Dwayne Bowe.

This preseason I was concerned about Bowe’s fantasy football ranking when his head coach Todd Haley demoted him to the third string. However, shortly after Bowe was demoted he earned the right to be in the starting lineup by preseason’s end.

Finding a Way

Last season, Lions receiver Calvin Johnson had the ability to produce for fantasy football owners inspite of his team having major issues. So far, this season Bowe has had that same ability to produce on a bad team.

In the first two weeks of the season Bowe didn’t have strong yardage numbers but did produce a touchdown in each game.

Unfortunately, Bowe did suffer a hamstring injury before week three and missed the game against the Eagles. The next week he continued to have problems and was limited to only one reception.

Week five Bowe bounced back and had 74 yards receiving and a touchdown against the Dallas Cowboys.

Last week Bowe led his team to their first win with six receptions for 109 yards.

When healthy it is clear to see that Bowe can be a consistent player for your fantasy team.

Look for Bowe to continue to be one of the top 15 fantasy football receivers in the league. The Chiefs have actually played better the past two weeks and that should only help Bowe produce.

This receiver has earned the right to start every week so make sure this talented receiver is in your lineup.
