This week the Chargers decided to part ways with their veteran starting receiver Chris Chambers. Chambers was in a contract season, and it was anticipated even before the season began that the team would not retain his services after his contract expired.

Chambers was having one of his least productive seasons of his career, accumulating nine receptions for 122 yards and a single touchdown in seven games.

Opportunity Knocks

Last weekend Malcom Floyd got his first opportunity to start (this season) against the Raiders. For the game Floyd had two receptions for 64 yards. While those numbers won’t blow you away, Floyd will have a chance to give consistent production for fantasy football owners in the future.

Floyd has the physical skills to be a dominant receiver in this league as he stands in at 6′5 and weighs 228 pounds.

Not only does Floyd have the size and strength to produce, but he has great leaping ability and speed to get down field. Floyd’s size, strength and jumping abilities makes him a strong option for Philip Rivers when he throws the football into the end zone.

Not only is Floyd a touchdown threat but he can make big plays down the field. This season he is averaging a whooping 22.8 yards per catch.

Fantasy Football Ranking for Malcom Floyd

Right now I would recommend you look at Floyd as a solid waiver wire pickup for your fantasy football team. Unless your desperate for a starter this week I wouldn’t recommend you start him right away.

We still need to see if he can take the next step as a receiver and produce solid numbers weekly. If Floyd has a big game this week against the Giants than he would be worth starting on your team in the future.

Hold onto Floyd and wait and see if Rivers continues to develop trust in his new starting receiver.

Week one of the fantasy football schedule is already behind us. Hopefully, your fantasy team got off to a good start to begin the year.

This week we have our weekly section on wounded warriors, as well as our top rankings for top position players. We have the top 16 ranked QB, TE, K and D/ST ranked. We also have the top 30 RB’s and top 40 WR’s as well.

Every week we will start off with our wounded warrior’s section. These are the key players that are on the injury report that you need to pay attention too before games begin.

Wounded Warrior’s

Donovan McNabb vs Saints – McNabb has missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday, so far this week. At this point in time, it looks like he will be a scratch. Even if he can play, the Eagles will probably run the ball and throw short passes.

Matt Cassel vs Raiders- Right now I hope you have a better option than Cassel on your team to start. However, he should make players like Dwayne Bowe more valuable, when he’s on the field.

At this point in time, it looks like Cassel may in fact play, so hopefully we can expect better production from Bowe and Larry Johnson.

Kyle Orton vs Browns- Orton is still wearing padded protection in his injured finger. Eddie Royal and Brandon Marshall may suffer a bit, while Orton is recovering. At the same time, all three players should have opportunities for success this week.

LaDainian Tomlinson vs Ravens- Tomlinson has missed practice both days this week. Right now he is wearing a protective boot on his injured ankle. Even if LT does play this week he is a poor bet for production against Baltimore.

If you have other options to start, I would bench Tomlinson this week.

Pierre Thomas vs @ Eagles- Thomas has been practicing with a heavy knee brace and his status for this week is up in the air.

Thomas did say on his twitter that he is ready to go for this week. This is a good sign, but even if he does it will probably be in a limited role.

Antonio Bryant vs @ Bills- Bryant makes for a bad play this week as he is still recovering from knee surgery. Last week he pulled himself out of the game. Look for other options this week.

Anquan Boldin vs @ Jaguars- Boldin said his hamstring is much better than last week, but it is still not 100%. Unless you have a deep receiving core, I would suggest you keep Boldin in the lineup.

T.J. Houshmandzadeh vs @ 49ers- Housh is listed as probable this week with back and rib issues. He should be fine for the game as the Seahawks and 49ers fight for first place in the division.

Brandon Marshall vs Browns- Marshall is not listed on the injury report. This is a good sign, but he will still need some time to get into playing shape. If you have good depth you might consider benching him until he proves he’s back.

Jeremy Shockey vs @ Eagles- Shockey was limited on Thursday’s practice with an ankle issue. However, he is not expected to miss the game and should be a decent start this week.

It’s that time of the year again for survivor fantasy football and fantasy-info.com has their rankings for the first week of the year. Some of you may not start a survivor league until the second week of the year but for those of you that do this article is for you.

This year we will be writing an article for every week of the survivor fantasy season. Below we have our rankings split into three sections, and they are studs, mid range and poor plays.

We hope these rankings help you choose those stud players you need this week for a successful start to the 2009 survivor fantasy season.

Oh, and just a friendly reminder for those that are new to a survivor league, you usually only get to use a player one time for the season. So if you choose a stud like Adrian Peterson this week, you won’t be able to use him again.

With the fantasy football season starting in just a short while from now I thought it would be a good idea to have one last mock draft for standard league play. This mock is for all of you fantasy football owners that like drafting your team as close to the start of the season as possible.

Below I have a link to our mock drafts for standard league play from June, July and August. If you like you can click on the link and see where different players have gone as the season has drawn closer.

First Round: Chicago Bears Running Back Matt Forte

While Matt Forte went fourth overall in this draft I have him as the third best running back to take in standard league play. Forte has all the attributes you want in a fantasy running back as he can run, catch, score and break the occasional big play.

Not only is this runner talented but he has a head coach in Lovie Smith that is committed to the running game. Beyond his coaches commitment, Forte also has a quarterback that defense have to respect in Jay Culter and he has an upgraded offensive line.

In the past two preseason games against the Giants and Broncos we have seen the Bears find success in different ways. At home against the Giants the Bears took advantage of a defense that was on short rest and made them pay.

It was nice to see Forte and the offense look sharp that week but I was more impressed with how the team handled the loud crowd noise in Denver, as Cutler returned to a hostel home coming. At first the Bears offense didn’t do much but they settled down and Forte had two touchdowns by the end of the first half.

To see this team handle a situation like that on the road so early in the year, only boosts my confidence that Forte will succeed in hard road games this season.

Take Forte with confidence and expect a great season in 2009.

Round Two: New York Jets Running Back Thomas Jones

While Thomas Jones did go late in the second round, it was the first time I’ve seen him drafted in this area all summer long. In all fairness to Jones he probably deserves to be drafted as a second round pick as he did have 15 touchdowns last season.

It looks like we can forget about the rumors of Jones being traded as he now looks like he will in fact be the main runner on the Jets again. With Shonn Greene sidelined because of injury, we have seen Jones find success this preseason converting touchdowns at the goaline.

Until last year Jones was never a great touchdown maker and if he is to deliver for fantasy owners this season (as a second round pick) he will need to have at least 9 touchdowns. If Greene does not become the goal line back at any point this season than Jones should deliver for fantasy owners, even with a rookie quarterback.

Third Round: Indianapolis Colts Quarterback Peyton Manning

Earlier in the summer I was very concerned about Peyton Manning and the Colts offense as they had lost both their offensive coordinator and their offensive line coach. But by the end of July the Colts had hired on both coaches as consultants and the NFL told all teams that consultants can call plays during games.

With the coaching staff now intact and a new offensive minded head coach, the Colts could play a more aggressive style of offense in 2009.

Eagles-Colts

If this hold true and the Colts do in fact attack more in the passing game than Manning should easily throw for around 35 touchdowns this season.

With a strong season I have Manning right in the middle of the top six quarterbacks for the 2009 fantasy football season. Below I have my top six overall.
