Week one of the fantasy football schedule is already behind us. Hopefully, your fantasy team got off to a good start to begin the year.

This week we have our weekly section on wounded warriors, as well as our top rankings for top position players. We have the top 16 ranked QB, TE, K and D/ST ranked. We also have the top 30 RB’s and top 40 WR’s as well.

Every week we will start off with our wounded warrior’s section. These are the key players that are on the injury report that you need to pay attention too before games begin.

Wounded Warrior’s

Donovan McNabb vs Saints – McNabb has missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday, so far this week. At this point in time, it looks like he will be a scratch. Even if he can play, the Eagles will probably run the ball and throw short passes.

Matt Cassel vs Raiders- Right now I hope you have a better option than Cassel on your team to start. However, he should make players like Dwayne Bowe more valuable, when he’s on the field.

At this point in time, it looks like Cassel may in fact play, so hopefully we can expect better production from Bowe and Larry Johnson.

Kyle Orton vs Browns- Orton is still wearing padded protection in his injured finger. Eddie Royal and Brandon Marshall may suffer a bit, while Orton is recovering. At the same time, all three players should have opportunities for success this week.

LaDainian Tomlinson vs Ravens- Tomlinson has missed practice both days this week. Right now he is wearing a protective boot on his injured ankle. Even if LT does play this week he is a poor bet for production against Baltimore.

If you have other options to start, I would bench Tomlinson this week.

Pierre Thomas vs @ Eagles- Thomas has been practicing with a heavy knee brace and his status for this week is up in the air.

Thomas did say on his twitter that he is ready to go for this week. This is a good sign, but even if he does it will probably be in a limited role.

Antonio Bryant vs @ Bills- Bryant makes for a bad play this week as he is still recovering from knee surgery. Last week he pulled himself out of the game. Look for other options this week.

Anquan Boldin vs @ Jaguars- Boldin said his hamstring is much better than last week, but it is still not 100%. Unless you have a deep receiving core, I would suggest you keep Boldin in the lineup.

T.J. Houshmandzadeh vs @ 49ers- Housh is listed as probable this week with back and rib issues. He should be fine for the game as the Seahawks and 49ers fight for first place in the division.

Brandon Marshall vs Browns- Marshall is not listed on the injury report. This is a good sign, but he will still need some time to get into playing shape. If you have good depth you might consider benching him until he proves he’s back.

Jeremy Shockey vs @ Eagles- Shockey was limited on Thursday’s practice with an ankle issue. However, he is not expected to miss the game and should be a decent start this week.

It’s that time of the year again for survivor fantasy football and fantasy-info.com has their rankings for the first week of the year. Some of you may not start a survivor league until the second week of the year but for those of you that do this article is for you.

This year we will be writing an article for every week of the survivor fantasy season. Below we have our rankings split into three sections, and they are studs, mid range and poor plays.

We hope these rankings help you choose those stud players you need this week for a successful start to the 2009 survivor fantasy season.

Oh, and just a friendly reminder for those that are new to a survivor league, you usually only get to use a player one time for the season. So if you choose a stud like Adrian Peterson this week, you won’t be able to use him again.

The Baltimore Ravens 2009 Regular Season Schedule

Ravens Training Camp

2008 ended with for the Ravens with a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Division Championship game. That game mark the first time a starting rookie quarterback had taken a team to that contest in NFL history.

If the Ravens hope to jump past the Steelers this season, they will need quarterback Joe Flacco to continue his progression as a future pro bowl player in this league.

Below are three sections of interest that are worth paying attention to for fantasy owners coming into the season for this team. First we have listed our fantasy players which we believe are worth paying attention to this season.

Next is strength of schedule against the run, pass and points against. Lastly we have a few games selected that will be key in telling how this team will preform for the 2009 season.

Strength of Schedule

vs Run Easiest Schedule in Football

The Ravens have one of the better offensive lines for running the football and they should only continue their strong play against the weakest schedule to run against. Second year running back Ray Rice has been running with the first team since OTA’s and last week we saw him score at the goaline against the Jets.

Jets-Ravens
I thought for sure that Le’Ron McClain would see the bulk of work at this area of the field but it looks like Rice will get opportunities from time to time. If this holds true than Ray is making for a very nice sleeper pick in this years fantasy drafts.

Willis McGahee should be in the mix but I believe he will play second fiddle to Rice as this young player is emerging into the Ravens go to guy.

Games of Interest

Weeks 2 and 4: Early in the season the Ravens will be tested as they travel to the Chargers (wk 2) and the Patriots (wk 4) in the first month of the year. I will be interested to see if the Ravens offensive line can win the battle at the line of scrimmage.

If the Ravens can control the ball on the ground it will give Joe Flacco better opportunities to find his receivers when he does throw the football. If they can not win this battle than I’m not sure the Ravens can win either of these tough matchups on the road.

Week 16 vs Steelers: In the second to last game of the season Baltimore may be playing for the division title as they matchup against the Steelers in Pittsburgh. This game should be a hard hitting grudge match. For the Ravens to win, it should come down to the abilities of Flacco and if he can make the big plays down the stretch of the game.

While I do believe the Ravens will have a strong season and make the playoffs I don’t believe they will make it to the Super Bowl. Unfortunately for this organization it’s too bad that Flacco isn’t in his 4th or 5th season as a pro.

In the end it is very hard for a team to get to the big game let alone win it with such a young quarterback at the helm. If Joe should stay on the fast track of progress that he’s been on than maybe he can be the exception to the rule.

Fantasy Info: Internet Fantasy Football Standards 2009 Below we have listed one player from every position and why we feel that player is primed for a good year in NFL.com standard scoring leagues. Quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers- In an NFL.com league it is kind of like Fox Sports and CBS sportsline leagues in that you get 6 points for every touchdown pass and -2 points for every interception. This means you want to find quarterbacks that not only can make a high touchdown total but also do not throw a lot of interceptions. Green Bay Packers vs Chicago Bears

Rodgers had a total of 32 touchdowns last year and only throw 13 interception in his first year as a starting quarterback. Those are very impressive numbers for a player that is just starting out in his playing career.

Look for Rodgers as high as the 3rd or 4th round in 12 team leagues this coming season for your NFL.com league.

Running Backs

Just about every major standard online league has the same standard scoring system for runners, receivers and tight ends.

What this means is that it does not matter how long your touchdowns comes from, it could be a 60 yard bomb or a 1 yard touchdown plunge, you still get 6 points for the score. In some ways you could say that these leagues are even more important to have players that accumulate good yardage totals.

Maurice Jones-Drew- We have all waited for this running back to be the star and the feature player. Now that Fred Taylor has left town, Jones-Drew has the full opportunity to succeed on the ground and in the receiving game as well.

No one needs to questions Maurice’s ability to get into the end zone as he has accumulated 38 touchdowns in his first three season in the league! That is an amazing start for a players career. Wide Receivers T.J. Houshmandzadeh – Other then Houshmandzdeh’s down year a season ago without Carson Palmer on the field, this receiver has been very solid. He is not a game breaker like Randy Moss but he is a very good standard league scoring internet league receiver. Look for Housh to bounce back this season and have a 100 catches, 1,250 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2009. Tight Ends NFL: DEC 28 Bears at Texans

Greg Olsen – This tight end is primed for a great season with his new quarterback Jay Cutler at the helm. Olsen improved his numbers from his rookie season last year with over 50 catches and 5 touchdowns.

Look for this talented tight end to make the pro bowl as he accumulates over 70 catches and makes a run at a 1,000 yards receiving.

Kickers

Out of the big five fantasy sites for standard fantasy football play, NFL.com and CBS sportsline offer the lowest point scoring structure for kickers. At this point in time they give only 3 points to a kicker for field goals of 49 yards or less. But they do give 5 points for 50 yard plus field goals and that is standard for all leagues.

Stephin Gostkowski- This field goal kicker may not blow you away with a bunch of long bomb field goals, but he is the most steady kicker in the game. A big part of this is because he is on the Patriots and they put a lot of points.

What is also nice about a kicker like this is that his team tends to score just about every week, so you can count on him for consistency throughout the season.

Defense and ST

Baltimore Raves v Pittsburgh Steelers

At first glance the NFL.com scoring system for defenses is probably the weakest of the top 5 sites. But at the same time they do not penalize your team in points if your defense gives up to many points.

This is nice because it takes away from the worry that you could lose points just because the team gave up 28 points that week.

Ravens- Look for the Ravens to have another fine season as Ray Lewis gets another year older. This defense will be greatly helped by their offenses massive offensive line and quality running game.

With the ability to stuff the run and a new found success against the pass, look for the Ravens to have a fine season for your NFL.com fantasy football team.

News broke today that Ravens top receiver Derrick Mason has retired from football. While Mason was a bit banged up last season, this news is defiantly an unexpected surprise at this point in the season.

With Baltimore now losing Joe Flacco’s top target, one has to believe that Joe and the Ravens will lean on receiver Mark Clayton more often this season. Mark was the Ravens first round pick back in 2006 and has been living in Mason’s shadow for his first three years in the NFL.

But now that Mason is gone and star tight end Todd Heap’s inability to stay healthy (Ravens signed tight end LJ Smith to help out) this team needs Clayton in a big way.

Derrick Mason’s Career in the NFL

Mason ends his career with more then 10,000 career receiving yards, 790 receptions and 52 receiving touchdowns. He was also a two time pro bowl player and played a total of 12 years in the NFL.

His career started playing two seasons with the Houston Oilers and then spent six more years with the franchise as they moved to Tennessee and became the Titans. Mason finished up his final four seasons for fantasy football owners as a Baltimore Ravens.

I’ve had the opportunity to play on great teams and with great players. After 12 years, I have seen it all and done it all,” Mason stated. “Right now, I am content with the decision I am making. With a consistent and tough veteran like Mason, last years rookie quarterback Joe Flacco had a receiver that he could count on in tough times. Now that security blanket is gone and he will have to find success without this rock steady vet on the team.

With this news, Mark Clayton now becomes the unquestioned No. 1 receiver on the team. He also vaults his way into becoming a hands down top 30 wide receiver in fantasy football.

With a quality team all around him, I now expect Mark to be a receiver that fantasy owners can count on for at least 1,100 yards and eight touchdowns in 2009. Flacco needs a true top receiver and Clayton has the ability and skills to be that player.

The Ravens are now in desperate need for Clayton to be the player they hoped he would be coming out of Oklahoma. Mark is now in his 4th season and I do believe he will deliver the goods as he will have many ball thrown his way this season and seasons to come.

Demetrius Williams is probably the favorite to start opposite Clayton this season for the Ravens, so keep an eye out for him as well.
