The Rams have had another miserable start to the season and one would hope they can turn it around. Against the Vikings at the end of the game Donnie Avery caught a touchdown pass from Marc Bulger, and I’m hoping this connection can produce from here.

The Rams have had another miserable start to the season and one would hope they can turn it around. Against the Vikings at the end of the game Donnie Avery caught a touchdown pass from Marc Bulger, and I’m hoping this connection can produce from here.

Avery is now the No.1 receiver in St. Louis and ironically the man that used to be is playing against the Rams this week. That man is Jaguars veteran receiver Torry Holt and to be honest he hasn’t done much in Jacksonville.

Steven Jackson Needs Avery to Produce

Now, Avery is probably not on many fantasy football teams because of the Rams anemic ways. I do believe he can be a productive fantasy football receiver this season, but he needs to get things turned around.

A season ago Avery started out slow but around this time of the year he started to get hot. While he did fade away in the second half, you could see this young receiver had talent and was fantasy relevant.

One player that has even more fantasy relevance in St. Louis is their star running back Steven Jackson. Right now, Jackson is desperate for the Rams to start having some respectability in the passing game.

With no respect in the passing game defenses are loading up to stop Jackson and are doing a very good job of bottling him up.

Understanding this it is easy to understand why Jackson is having another slow start to the season.

Furthermore, this is why I didn’t believe Jackson was even close to a top ten fantasy running back coming into the season.

It’s not that Jackson is a bad runner, it’s just that he has a very bad team around him.

Fantasy Football Ranking for Donnie Avery

If Avery can get something started this weekend against the Jaguars, I would recommend you pick him up on your fantasy football team. This young man is still the top receiver on this team, and eventually he will have success.

Below I have a list of the Rams’ schedule from here on out, and as you can see Avery has much better opportunities than he did early on.

Wk. 6- @ Jaguars

Wk. 7- Colts

Wk. 8- @ Lions

Wk. 9- Bye Week

Wk. 10- Saints

Wk. 11- Cardinals

Wk. 12- Seahawks

Wk. 13- @ Bears

Wk. 14- @ Titans

Wk. 15- Texans

Wk. 16- @ Cardinals

With a good schedule to pass against the rest of the season, look for Avery and Jackson to start producing better fantasy football numbers.

This week I noticed a new receiver for the Jacksonville Jaguars named Mike Sims-Walker. After the game against the Cardinals in which Walker had 6 catches for over 100 yards. I looked around on the internet and found out it was, in fact, the third year receiver, formally known as Mike Walker.

The reason he changed his name to Sims-Walker is in honor of his father Michael Sims, who died in December from colon cancer.

This week Walker will be a starter for the Jaguars, and as I’ve written in a previous article this summer, he is a very talented player. Walker’s main problem, so far in his career, has been health.

Knee problems have dogged, what could be a promising career for the third round pick out of UCF.

Possible No.1 Receiver

Torry Holt has started out slow for the Jaguars, and if he can’t get it going soon than one might have to believe that his career (as a top receiver) is done. If this is in fact the case it would allow for Walker to become the major focal point in the Jaguars’ offense.

I do believe that David Garrard is good enough to make Walker a starting option in fantasy football this season. All we need to see is if Walker can put two quality games together, and if he can stay healthy.

Fantasy Football Ranking for Mike Sims-Walker

Right now, I would recommend that you at least have Walker on your roster for the next few weeks. Next week the bye weeks start and Walker can at least make for a nice fill in player.

This week Walker plays the Texans, and he should have some opportunities to find success against their sorry defense.

Last week Kurt Warner never looked sharp against the 49ers defense. He was also not helped by the fact that Anquan Boldin and Steve Breaston were not healthy. This week the Cardinals went cross country to play the Jaguars.

Warner Plays Well

The Cardinals’ quarterback only threw for 243 yards, but he was on the mark for almost every pass attempt. For the game Warner was 24/26 and had two touchdown passes.

Breaston and Boldin played well as they combined for 13 catches and 152 yards. If these two receivers can stay healthy, the Cardinals’ offense will be strong all year.

Chris Beanie Wells Fumble Twice

Tim Hightower’s grip on the starting tailback job is a little stronger now that Chris Beanie Wells fumbled twice. No head coach likes turnovers and the Cardinals’ head coach has proven he will bench talented players for not performing.

Look for Hightower to be the starter for at least the first half of this season.

Jaguars Struggling

The Jaguars just don’t look like a team that has improved enough to pull out of the AFC South gutter. Maurice Jones-Drew is a talented player but the rest of the team is just not ready to compete for the playoffs.

At this point in time, the Jags need to get Torry Holt more involved in the passing game. So far, they are 0-2, and they could easily be 0-3 next week against the Texans.

Week one of the fantasy football schedule is already behind us. Hopefully, your fantasy team got off to a good start to begin the year.

This week we have our weekly section on wounded warriors, as well as our top rankings for top position players. We have the top 16 ranked QB, TE, K and D/ST ranked. We also have the top 30 RB’s and top 40 WR’s as well.

Every week we will start off with our wounded warrior’s section. These are the key players that are on the injury report that you need to pay attention too before games begin.

Wounded Warrior’s

Donovan McNabb vs Saints – McNabb has missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday, so far this week. At this point in time, it looks like he will be a scratch. Even if he can play, the Eagles will probably run the ball and throw short passes.

Matt Cassel vs Raiders- Right now I hope you have a better option than Cassel on your team to start. However, he should make players like Dwayne Bowe more valuable, when he’s on the field.

At this point in time, it looks like Cassel may in fact play, so hopefully we can expect better production from Bowe and Larry Johnson.

Kyle Orton vs Browns- Orton is still wearing padded protection in his injured finger. Eddie Royal and Brandon Marshall may suffer a bit, while Orton is recovering. At the same time, all three players should have opportunities for success this week.

LaDainian Tomlinson vs Ravens- Tomlinson has missed practice both days this week. Right now he is wearing a protective boot on his injured ankle. Even if LT does play this week he is a poor bet for production against Baltimore.

If you have other options to start, I would bench Tomlinson this week.

Pierre Thomas vs @ Eagles- Thomas has been practicing with a heavy knee brace and his status for this week is up in the air.

Thomas did say on his twitter that he is ready to go for this week. This is a good sign, but even if he does it will probably be in a limited role.

Antonio Bryant vs @ Bills- Bryant makes for a bad play this week as he is still recovering from knee surgery. Last week he pulled himself out of the game. Look for other options this week.

Anquan Boldin vs @ Jaguars- Boldin said his hamstring is much better than last week, but it is still not 100%. Unless you have a deep receiving core, I would suggest you keep Boldin in the lineup.

T.J. Houshmandzadeh vs @ 49ers- Housh is listed as probable this week with back and rib issues. He should be fine for the game as the Seahawks and 49ers fight for first place in the division.

Brandon Marshall vs Browns- Marshall is not listed on the injury report. This is a good sign, but he will still need some time to get into playing shape. If you have good depth you might consider benching him until he proves he’s back.

Jeremy Shockey vs @ Eagles- Shockey was limited on Thursday’s practice with an ankle issue. However, he is not expected to miss the game and should be a decent start this week.

It’s that time of the year again for survivor fantasy football and fantasy-info.com has their rankings for the first week of the year. Some of you may not start a survivor league until the second week of the year but for those of you that do this article is for you.

This year we will be writing an article for every week of the survivor fantasy season. Below we have our rankings split into three sections, and they are studs, mid range and poor plays.

We hope these rankings help you choose those stud players you need this week for a successful start to the 2009 survivor fantasy season.

Oh, and just a friendly reminder for those that are new to a survivor league, you usually only get to use a player one time for the season. So if you choose a stud like Adrian Peterson this week, you won’t be able to use him again.

Check out our other SOS Articles: Strength of Schedule vs Run Strength of Schedule vs Pass Strength of Schedule vs Win/Loss When it comes to strength of schedule I take the schedules against the run, pass and point given up much more serious then I take the win/loss schedule. It seems that most talks shows always point out strength of schedule when it comes to the win/lose side of the schedule but never the other areas. In fantasy football it is vitally important to at least give these area’s a look through and see if their are holes in some of these appraisals or if they really hold weight for the season. Listed below I have some points I found interesting when over looking the schedules in terms of points given up. Falcons, Saints and Panthers have very hard schedules in Points Given Up This is interesting as these teams all had solid seasons for fantasy owners just last year. The team that I will be most interested to see how they handle this issue will be the Saints. I noted in my strength of schedule vs the run that the Falcons schedule is not as bad as one would think. But the Saints are a little bit different story as fantasy owners need a lot from a quarterback if he is going to go as high as Drew Brees will this season. Not only do the Saints have probably the hardest schedule for points against but they also have a hard schedule for passing. Seahawks, 49ers, Rams and Cardinals have Easiest Points Given Up Schedule

This is a fun division to be in for fantasy owners as these teams can all cough up the points on defense in any given week. Out of the four the Seahawks have the most friendly points schedule to face in the NFL this year and are looking good this off-season.

I’ve been talking about this pass offense as a nice sleeper this year and seeing this schedule only makes me like this team even more. Matt Hasselbeck and T.J. Houshmandzadeh should both have fine seasons as this team will challenge for the Western Division title.

It’s nice to see that the 49ers and Rams will have easy schedules as they will need them to have success. With that being said one has to question just how much success through the air can both of this teams actually have, even with a great passing schedule? The Rams may very will not have a healthy Donnie Avery all season and they no longer have Torry Holt on the team. For the 49ers, they can’t decided which quarterback they want to start and star rookie draft pick Michael Crabtree is still unsigned. I wouldn’t recommend you have these teams starting quarterbacks but look for sleeper receivers to come out and have good years for your team. Josh Morgan is having a terrific camp in San Francisco and maybe a guy like Keenan Burton can step up in St. Louis.
