Fantasy Player Notes: Tim Hightower was able to fend off Beanie Wells for most of the ‘09 season as he started every game. Still, Wells was clearly the better running back in the second half of the season, and at some point he will take over for Hightower. Look for Hightower to be a decent third down back and a respectable fill in if Wells should get hurt.

2009 Fantasy Year In Review: Tim Hightower may have hung onto the starting job in Arizona last season, but it was in name only as the schedule went deeper. Down the stretch, it was easy to see that Beanie Wells was the better running back in this offense and the numbers backed it up.

For the season Hightower did post a 4.2 yard per carry average and also had eight touchdowns on the ground. These numbers kept Hightower on fantasy rosters through the season.

2010 NFL Fantasy Football Player Rankings: It looks like Hightower is primed to remain the Cardinals starting tail back over Wells. Hightower isn’t the better running back but the coaching staff seems to like him as a consistent worker in the offense. This is a very unfortunate situation for Wells as he looks ready to make a big impact on the league in his second year.

Not only will Hightower take away valuable touches from the former first round pick, but he should take touchdowns from him as well. Hightower has averaged nine rushing touchdowns in his first two season and has proven to be productive at the goal line. Wells has also had success in this area but at times the Cardinals will keep Hightower in.
