2011 DL Player Rankings

Latest Update – August 27th

Justin Tuck was the true MVP of IDP fantasy football and theirs no reason to believe he won’t have another dominant season. While Tuck is a clear stud on the defensive line, he is one of hand full of yearly, trustworthy options at this position to draft. Many defensive linemen, rely on their sack numbers and big plays to have a strong year or week, and that doesn’t happen on a consistent basis, throughout a year, or during a career.

Just look at Jared Allen as he had a horrible start to the season in 2010, but rebounded big time in the second half to post over 10 sacks on the season. As long as you can get a steady amount of tackles from the linemen you select, it will soften the blow, if and when they go through a slow stretch, in making big plays.

To provide a balanced scoring system between tackle heavy leagues and big play leagues I have a kept solo tackles and assists at two and one but bumped up big play scoring by a point or two for each category. Make sure you check with your scoring rules before you draft to adjust for your league.

Note – check bottom of page for players with a star(s) next to their name for eligibility concerns.

*** – Many standard IDP leagues like ESPN, Yahoo etc, have Terrell Suggs only eligible as a linebacker. Make sure he is eligible in your league before selecting him as a top lineman.

** – Elvis Dumervil is set to return to defensive end as the Broncos are switching back to a 4-3 scheme. Check your eligibility rules in your league, to find out if/when he will can line status.

* – Mario Williams is moving to linebacker but should keep his defensive line eligibility for this season as he played on the line all last year.

* – Will Smith, Kevin Williams and Pat Williams will be suspended for the first month of the season after finally losing on their StarCaps case.
