2011 DE Player Rankings

Latest Update – August 27th

While Julius Peppers made an impact on the Bears defense and team, he failed to reach double digit sacks for just the third time in his fabulous nine year career. The Bears should have another good year on defense and I like Peppers to move back to around eleven sacks. With that, I still have Peppers ranked down to the sixth best defensive lineman because he totals around 50 tackles a season and that is very average (if not below) for a top end on your IDP squad.

That said, the two defensive ends in front of Peppers may not be eligible for this position in your IDP league. Terrell Suggs is still listed as only a linebacker in Yahoo and ESPN leagues, and Elvis Dumervil is expected to gain eligibility as the season progress, because he will be a full time lineman, with the Broncos switching back to a 4-3 scheme.

While those three lineman are great options, the first three on this list in Justin Tuck, Jared Allen and Trent Cole are a cut above them all. All three have been top end producers for multiple seasons, and theirs no reason to believe the won’t continue their terrific play in the up-coming season. It’s probably worth targeting one of these three lineman, maybe as one of the first IDP options off the board on draft day, because it can be a challenge to find trust worthy options from week one to Championship weekend.

To provide a balanced scoring system between tackle heavy leagues and big play leagues I have a kept solo tackles and assists at two and one but bumped up big play scoring by a point or two for each category. Make sure you check with your scoring rules before you draft to adjust for your league.
