2011 PPR RB Rankings

Rankings Last Updated – September 2nd

Add a point per reception and the whole world seems to change for a running backs ranking, like adding the strikeout category to pitchers in fantasy baseball. All of a sudden, a fantasy owner is asked to value and project a players worth not solely on their total yardage and touchdowns but the amount of times they are asked to run routes out of the back field, or at times even lineup as a wide receiver and catch passes.

In this style of fantasy football running backs like Michael Turner and Rashard Mendenhall are going to lose value because they fail to catch the football with regularity. This style of play is starting to gain in popularity as the NFL has chance from having the traditional “bell cow” running backs on most teams to slimmer, faster options as the main runners who have receiving skills.

Just look at our top players rated this season as an example of how many runners are catching the football now days. Thirteen of the top fifteen running backs are likely to catch at least 40 receptions, this season and that ratio is much higher than just a few years back. Breakout runners over the past few seasons include Arian Foster, Jamaal Charles, Ray Rice, Darren McFadden, Peyton Hillis, Ahmad Bradshaw and Jahvid Best all fit the new style of running back in today’s evolving (more passing) game.

Our running back projections below take into account not just each runners 2011 projected stats, but each players upside, risk, weather factors, strength of schedule, style of offense and the team they have (skill players) around them. Throughout the summer, we will be updating this page because injuries, free agency and unexpected breaking news are constant and values are always in flux.

For fantasy player rankings beyond standard league play feel free to check out our cheat sheets section of the website for rankings in various league play. We will also have mock drafts available to help you get an idea of where various running backs are being selected in different league styles. We also have a Standard ReDraft and Keeper / Dynasty rankings for running backs as well.
