Louis Delmas | Free Safety

2011 IDP Fantasy Football Outlook: A groin injury in the summer caused many IDP fantasy owners to shy away from Louis Delmas, even though he was healthy enough to start the season. While Delmas showed toughness by playing in 15 games and racking up 84 tackles, his groin was a problem off and on, and he had to have surgery in January.

Now, projected to be fully healthy I believe Delmas could hold respectable value for IDP leagues because his stock is lower than it would have been coming into drafts healthy a year ago. The Lions will add some pieces in free agency, but I fully expect them to have continued problems vs the pass, and Delmas should continue to be the teams top tackler in the backfield. I know Erik Coleman was added to the team at strong safety but theirs not guarantee that he will keep his job for the full year, and that should tell you something about his game these days.

If you’re required to start a free safety position in your IDP league, Delmas obviously holds better value, but I think you can easily acquire him as a No.3 defensive back in 12 team leagues this year, and that is a worthy selection for Delmas.

2010 IDP Fantasy Football Outlook

Louis Delmas became a personal favorite of mine when he took a touchdown back from his own endzone against the Cardinals week fifteen. That was the fantasy playoffs and getting a big play like that from the rookie just made me do a dance by the TV for about ten minutes. This youngster had a very nice rookie season last year and should have another solid season in 2010. The Lions need Delmas to rack up over 100 tackles because they just don’t have much in the backfield.
